I just can't see the attraction with them.
But then again I don't read books or think I'm better than I am.
Much rather sit in a boozer if I get any me time... Atmosphere, real people, the smell of off ale, something on sale that I actually want to buy / enjoy drinking, piss ridden bogs with amusing graffiti.

If they weren't so ridiculously overpriced they'd be great.
I treat myself now and then, amazing tasting coffee, the smell of freshly roasted coffee beans inside the shops is fantastic.
In reply to OP
1. I don't like tea (tin hat affixed)
2. If alcohol in blood stream isn't an option at the time (driving, work etc) I'm not one of these people that can sit in a pub and have a soft drink*, if I'm in a boozer then I'm getting shiters!
*Disclaimer - If I'm going for a bite to eat and have to drive, I can cope with having a shandy

It does amuse me that the nation is pretty much addicted to the two legal drugs of caffeine & alcohol, yet those same people that 'can't get through the morning without my cup of coffee' sneer at those that may choose to enjoy 'illegal' drugs.

Chain coffee shops are fucking tax-dodging cunts, full of people trying to be "cool", when in fact they are fat from all the crap they have in their coffee, which tastes like shit.
Find a proper coffee shop that does decent coffee and hasn't been put out of business by students and wannabes flocking to a tax-dodging Costa or Starbucks (because the only thing they are able to understand is corporate "brands"). Save yourself a quid a drink, too.
In fact, it's better off without these cunts posing and talking shite in their deliberately raised voices.
