I have a lot of questions about little things that are different when I travel in the U.K., so I figured I would just start asking some of them.
Ice, or the lack of it. In the US if I ordered a coke it would come in a glass with ice. There seems to be a cultural difference about this?
Why does Guinness at the pub come in 'regular' and extra cold? The extra cold is about the way temp I like it.
Late night food, say 10pm or after seems limited. Here, there are fast food open all day for the most part. The kabob shops were open but not much else while I have been in the U.K.
If you guys want questions about cultural travel questions from my side answered post them up and I'll take crack at them.

Ice - thats normally in coke unless you ask for it not to be, bar staff normally ask. Guinness - Extra cold has only been here a few years, its never too warm here to really need it Normally a few restaurants open late into the night in the cities, you probably need to ask taxi drivers, we dont eat late here unless had a few beers as it makes you fat ....

In the US if I ordered a coke it would come in a glass with ice. There seems to be a cultural difference about this? Everywhere I've ever been offers ice in Coke. Except for McDonald's who offer Coke in ice....shithouses. Why does Guinness at the pub come in 'regular' and extra cold? The extra cold is about the way temp I like it. I have no idea, and extra cold is too cold for Guinness. Idiots. Late night food, say 10pm or after seems limited. Here, there are fast food open all day for the most part. The kabob shops were open but not much else while I have been in the U.K. In big cities a McDonald's will be open 24/7. In smaller places such as Stoke just the drive-thru option in available, obviously requiring a car. There are curry houses which are often open into the early hours, and are a real treat when pissed. Ice - optional in bars, standard in food joints.
Guinness - marketing ploy.
Late night food - who needs anything other than a kebab joint!

I do find it strange that owning / carrying a gun is considered the norm (yes, I'm jealous); do you / your friends carry and if so, does it feel strange when you don't carry it (like going out without your wallet)?

I don't but lots do. There are signs on the outside of the businesses that don't allow you in with a gun. We have open carry too. So if you want to go wild Wild West just put the shit on your hip. I have seen young black men open carry but in their part of town I would too. For the most part the gun culture hyped by liberals that don't live here in the true south. We don't have any issues with it imo

I found in Manhattan women are pretty loose by the MSG and expect money for some reason in the morning if you let them crash at yours. We don't have that here as no MSG. I had the worst hamburger ever in Hope, Arkansas from a KFC !!! Yep they tried to do a burger, was about 3am and seemed a good idea at the time.
You have yoghurt stands in your shopping malls but call it YO GURT...it's the little differences. I can walk into a pub in the UK and order a packet of crisps, I don't mean Frito Lays I mean a bag of crisps. Do you know what they call Mr Pibb in the UK? Disgusting fruity drink

If almost everyone carries, does it still act as a deterant?

If almost everyone carries, does it still act as a deterant? Attack someone or steal something and the fact that the populace is armed will come into play.

God yes. Let's look at the zones like DC and Chicago that don't allow guns. That is where the most shootings happen.
Crazy the no gun zones have the highest rates of crime and killings

Gun shops in America are awesome. Would love to walk into a shop and buy a gun. I had one in Asia that a copper sold to me.

Round 2
When you guys say BBQ, what are you saying?
Just cooking something on a grill or getting the smoker out for 12 hours and doing brisket and ribs?
