Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell has said a potential deal for a Premier League defender, believed to be Stoke's Ryan Shotton, has fallen through. Shotton, a 22-year-old centre-half, featured as a late substitute in the Potters' draw with Chelsea on Sunday. "On Thursday we spoke to the player and the club, and I see Sunday he was in the squad in the Premier League," Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk. "He came on so it's probably not [happening] now, no." news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14528716.stm

I'd love him to break through properly at stoke. Nothing better than a local lad wearing the shirt Unfortunately for him, when we sign the players we need over the coming couple of weeks he won't even get near the bench for league games when we have a fully fit squad.

Hmm, there's something about Shotts that Tone seems to trust more than he ever trusted Rooney or Dicko so I could see him staying and getting maybe into double figures in apps this season, even if he doesn't get starts.

Don't forget how scared the other clubs would be if we got another throw in expert in our line-up. Especially one that's only 22 and has ten-twelve years left in him..

It was so funny at the end of the game when Shotton ran across to take that throw and the crowd made far more noise than for a Rory throw ;D
