news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/london_2012/13830342.stmDoes anyone actually care if we have an Olympic football team or not? Looks like it could be the English U21 team with a couple of Welsh and maybe Scottish players added. It is possible chance of a medal for GB with us having home advantage.

I think it would be quality to watch! What pisses me off is the Welsh at one point were telling their players not to play, because they didn't want to be part of GB, but at the same time calling for a Great British domestic cup competition, because it would bring money in for them

I was thinking about this yesterday when they were suggesting that a good proportion of the next batch of ticket releases would be for the footie. My thoughts were that Olympic Football seems to be fairly pointless. I suppose this is based on the fact that we already have the World Cup and the Euros and a fair amount of the participants don't take it seriously.

I think it would be a bit ridiculous, given that football is supposed to be our national game, for us NOT to enter a GB team when the Olympics are held in this country.
I also think it is ridiculous that some of the "home" nations are still forbidding their players from taking part. FIFA have said that taking part will not affect their ability to keep their own FAs - so why not give some of their players the chance (for a change) to take part in a World event. Bale, for example, deserves the chance to shine in a GB team.

Good point there Jam, not sure why high profile sports like football and tennis are olympic sports.

But as professionalism became the norm in most sports, the quality of competition was too diluted if the Olympics was confined to amateurs and that would have led in time to the end of the Olympics. At least in football they do make some effort to keep it mainly for less experienced players.

Breaking news on the BBC saying a deal has been reached to field teams made up of English, Scottish and Welsh players but the Scottish and Welsh FA's are saying they no nothing about it.

Harsh on players like Bale, who will probably never get the chance to play in a big tournament again ( No Massive disrespect to Wales.) Nobody can stop him playing though can they? He'll just risk being dropped by Wales, which I doubt they'd do.
