You running benders may be able to offer me some injury advice, although I am already dreading bothering to ask ;D. For about two months now I've had a pain in my heel/underneath my heel area right side of my right foot when I walk or try to run. It comes on for the first few minutes after sitting for any length of time or being asleep, is painful enough to make me limp quite badly, but if I force myself to walk normally, instead of limping, through the pain it disappears almost completely pretty quickly until the next time I sit down then get up again. Been to the docs, wasn't really interested cos it's not affecting work or anything significant. Any thoughts other than monkey aids? Plantar fasciitis? What swampsnake said is probably correct. The frozen water bottle is good but also a golf ball or a spiky massage ball, to gently massage it. Book in with a sports physio for an initial assessment, that or spend the money on drink and ladies and self diagnose off youtube

After the Manchester marathon I had three months off with it apart from running 4 or 5 short league races no training at all. There's no reason why you can't be free of it in time to start training for Bournemouth. When you are consult Northy for a good training plan I did my own thing and ended up with plantar. One of the reasons they give for getting it is upping the training too quickly and that was my problem. With good rest and massage there's no reason you can't solve the problem in a few months.

Thank you northy and swampsnake for the advice. I tried the golf ball under the foot routine as recommended by a work colleague for plantar but it hasn't cleared up completely although did help a little. I e also been doing calf stretches for the last two months which have at least made my calves more elastic but not really helped with the foot pain.
I'll book myself in to a sports masseur and she what they think. Getting frustrated at my lack of exercise.

Thinking of joining a gym. Any good ones in Stoke that aren't full of wankers? Quieter the better, and preferably with a pool. Need to learn to swim before the little un starts taking lessons.

The Holiday Inn at Clayton by junction 15 is quiet I believe. One of my running mates uses it and I used it many years ago it's good. I had to relearn to swim when the kids were about two for the same reason. Went down to a place in Devon and had a three day course.

One of the "lads" who was in the group I ran with on Saturday turned 75 last year. He's entered the next 5 year age band so he's starting to smash the local records. 47 minutes for the Telford 10K in December and 39 minutes for the Alsager 5 a few weeks back. He did 17.5 seriously hilly miles last Saturday in training for next months Stafford 20.

13 miles in the sunshine in Northwich this morning. Idyllic country lanes, meadows, woods, nature reserves, country parks and past streams, ponds, lakes, canal and river. Almost made the company bearable I didn't however see and kingfishers unlike yesterday on the Trent just a few hundred yards from the back of the Boothen* * The real one not that plastic thing up at the Brit

Anglesey Half, 1 hour 46 mins not bad considering I had a dose of the 'two bob bits' yesterday afternoon and evening, started an hour after i'd taken mum and the hangers on (wife and rug rats) to the Miller and Carter in Talke, the daughter throwing up as well in the evening (no drink involved) An 'undulating' secnic course, statred on the Menai Bridge and went past Beaumaris castle, nice views there over the strait and the snowy mountains, glistening in the sunshine (albeit briefly)

He did just on 3 hours at the recent 20 mile race which puts him number one in the rankings with UK Athletics not only this season but since records began in 2006 ;D

Not fit to lace his boots, don't think you'd be allowed in the same room as him
