Mentioned it on the FM thread..
Has anyone ever played any of these games? Managed to get Civ IV with the expansion packs and it's ridiculously addictive. After wasting a good eight hours, you wonder what you've done and feel like you've wasted your time but you just want to play it again
Awesome time killer, it's just awesome

I've got to go camping for a week next week, where there will be no internet connection. Needing something to do while I'm there. Having just briefly read the basic idea on wikipedia I'm liking it.
Sell it to me Jay, I want details!

It's hard to sell and explain, you just need to play it and as soon as you get the grasp of it, you'll be addicted to it

Gonna by the Civilization V game of the year edition off Amazon tomorrow.
Sounds really good. Should keep me occupied on those rainy South Wales days.

IV is better than V, I did some reading up and most have gone back to IV

But I have never played IV, so won't know the difference. Wiki says V is on a new graphics engine, meaning the graphics will be miles better, on a game I've never played before that's all I care about.

Fair point but from what I've been reading, hardcore "Civ" players generally think IV is better than V. I wanted the best Civ game out of the lot to be honest

Never played them, was always into Command and Conquer. Worth a crack? Would it run alright on a laptop (decent toshiba)?

Just ordered off Amazon. Game of the year edition, now for the annoying two day wait.

Check 'can I run it' by system requirements lab. Little website which tells you if you can play games on your machine.
On the topic of Civ. I've never got into it, I torrented V to see if it's worth a purchase but played it twice and deleted it, just not for me.
I play all sorts of genre's too.

I can understand why people don't "get it", it's a strange game but if you do grasp it and "get it" then it's ridiculously addictive

I'm gonna be one helluva unsociable bastard on this 'holiday'. Ordered this, and I've just nostalgically bought SimCity 3000 for £3. ;D It is the best game ever though.

The only big thing I don't like is the one move at a time thing, slows it down massively. It needs to be more Age of Empires in that aspect.

I have an average sized town, slightly bigger than my closest neighbour, Stockholm. They have a better military at the moment but I'm slowly building mine up, once I have a better military should I declare war on Stockholm? I want more towns so I can produce more stuff, but I don't know if it works like that.

I end up with around 6-12 cities in the end Also, if you've got a smaller military and only one city then going to war would just end up with you losing
