Zalabaleta/Onouha if/when man city buy a new right back. Whichever they'll sell to us at a decent price and subsides the wages of.

Wouldn't have Barton and Gibson.
Take Gibson, because he's younger and has been a regular squad member for Man Utd for years which proves he's good enough. Also he doesn't appear to be a complete twat.
Who to partner him in midfield is the big question, we need a better holding midfield player. But Delap HAS to play in Europe. I can't wait to see some mid table side in Bratislava's faces when they wonder why the hell all our players are so far forward for a throw in. ;D

I hate him as well Juan but he'd fit us brilliantly Especially along side the alleged Gibson signing eh boss? The problem you've got then is which one would be the more defensive out of the two? TP's tactics, dull as they maybe at times but they're highly effective, currently work on the basis that there's two defensive midfielders. When we attack, we turn into a 4-2-4, Ethers and Pennent go forward but the two centre midfielders drop back and sit in, thus covering the back four and preventing space occurring and potentially exposing us to a counter attack If we could get a destroyer type of centre midfielder, a better version of Whitehead and Delap, to play alongside a box-to-box/creative style centre midfielder like Barton or Parker (no chance with Parker but that's the sort of midfielder I'm talking about), not only would our tactics remain the same, they'd evolve slightly and for the better. Whoever we'd sign could just effectively fit in from the off, rather than go through a bedding in process that some players need and sometimes fail with (Tuncay being the example, which still saddens me..) Evolution rather than revolution is the way forward

Ahhhh point taken... i was working on the notion of Barton being the one to sit back a tad giving Gibson the opportunity to move forward and hitting his thunderbolt kind of like when Glen and Deano play together all be it slightly more glorified no?

It could definitely work but, me personally, I don't think either player is as good as either Whitehead/Delap in a defensive mindset so it could potentially weaken the centre of midfield This all being based on TP's tactics, there's no reason in another team it couldn't work though

A fair point squire which certainly backs up the interest in Palacios. Cant pretend to be happy about sticking with the tactic mind was hoping for a revamp on that front with players to suit rather than upgrades... but i guess if it aint broke and all that

It's seeing us steadily improve in a sensible way, both footballing and financially. Just look at Sunderland, spending millions and they've got a manager in Bruce who thinks he has to deal in a Football Manager 10 sort of fashion. They've achieved less than us in the past three years Steady improvements to the current system is doing us brilliantly so, as you say, if it ain't broke there's no need to fix it. Just a better away plan and upgrades on weak personnel areas such as full back and centre midfield

Can play all across defence although predominantly a rb/cb so would be excellent for covering as well as being better than wilko/wilson/higgy imo.
