The problem with that is the other teams.
When I played with Brugge last year, I got pretty far in the champions league a few times and Europa. But the other teams got knocked out in the qualifiers.

The game is set up now so that if you're determined enough you can make a single league one of the most powerful in Europe. It would take a long time, but by slowly making european qualifiers and getting further and further you increase the nations co-efficients and league reputation. It's only been this way for a couple of years, but it does mean in theory, you could have Prestatyn town playing in front of 50/60k crowds regularly and signing the worlds greatest players. Think the most extreme example I saw was with someone on the SI forums having taken somewhere like Iceland to Europes top league, I know it worked out that match attendance was something like 50% of the countries population lol. When you say a long time, how long are we talking? I'm pretty methodical on it and it usually takes me weeks / months to get through a season but I like the sound of that.

Pulis went to Sunderland on my save, first player he enquired about? John Walters. In the summer he then signed Ryan Shotton from Huddersfield. When I got the enquiry from Sunderland and saw Pulis was manager though I was in disbelief, and delighted. I never expected to get a transfer offer for Walters lol. Pulis went Sunderland on my save too, the last home game was against me and he needed to win to stay up, I beat them 5-1 hardy har. Then he won the FA cup for them next game! Finished 9th in my first season, signed Ademilson in January and he scored a massive one goal, but I'll give him time. Walters ended up being my top scorer, he was a beast. Been given a measly £4M to play with

I signed Ademilson in my 3rd season and he scored 18 in 26 games then broke his leg.

Marc Wilson is easily the best left back in the league.

Where are all the good left backs!! There's a dearth of top quality LB's in the world right now so it's pretty realistic

Quality fullbacks are always really difficult to find in FM.

They'd rather have a "proper LB" but I can't name one who would realistically sign

I always manage to find great right backs. Left backs are a problem though, I got Gaetan Bong on FM12 but he struggled after the first two seasons and I couldn't find a solid replacement for him. Only one I can really think of is Jack Robinson who seems to be fairly solid.

Also, has anyone managed to put together a consistent tactic?
Mine will either leak goals left, right and centre or I'll not concede for several games in a row

Yeah my tactic seems very very inconsistent, they either don't get a chance all game or they'll score 3 goals from stupid lapses.

Mine will either leak goals left, right and centre or I'll not concede for several games in a row I beat Spurs 5-1 then lost 4-0 to Fulham in the same week using the exact same tactic. Infuriatingly inconsistent. Got Taye Taiwo for LB although his wages are uncomfortably high, him and Wilson will do me good.

The best tactic I've found is 4-2-3-1 with 2 DMs and 3 AMs.
In the last two Prem seasons I've won the league twice and only lost 4 games, so it's really consistent. Only conceded 17 goals last season too, it's working brilliantly.

You said you'd found it so you've found it on the internet..
Or you've created it yourself. If so, give us the tactic file or the instructions
Much love
