You can nominate one of each (i'm not fussed if the player later joins permenantly)
best: Mark Stein, no further comment required
worst: Gordon Marshall, to be honest there was half a dozen crap keepers that could be chosen here

Going off players I've watched and can remember..
Best: Mark Crossley, kept us in the Championship/Division 1 single handedly. If we'd got relegated, I think we wouldn't be in the position we're in now
Worst: Graham Fenton, he was a bit fucking shit

good as shawcross is, I don't think his impact is anything like Steinos was at the time

Michael Ricketts has got to be up there as one of the worst loans ever, the closest he ever got to contributing to our cause was when he came on late in a game we were winning, hoping to see it out. Somebody played it down the flank for him to hold it in the corner, the ridiculously overweight and unfit bastard comically waddled over to the ball, tripped over thin air and knocked it out for a goal kick.
Probably the worst shape I've ever seen a player in that league, he'd have struggled to get a game for a pub team in that state.

Not just for his time he spent on loan but for what it did for us in the future. Steino was sold for just under half the then British Transfer record (Keane to Man U £3.7M in july 93) , we'd have to get £20M for Ryan to compare

he was a good loanee, I'm not disputing that ;D
PS what happened to your nomination for worst (can I suggest an ex-everton keeper might be worth a shout)

Ameobi was fucking terrible. I remembered all of us being so excited by his (then) imminent arrival, and he turned out to be a shower of shit.
I can't remember Jay Bothroyd being much use to us either (?).

Yep, Ameobi, considering he cost us about £1m, was absolutely abysmal.
Showed real intent and desire from PC to get promoted though.

For example thinking back to the Bristol City home game which was a massive game against promotion rivals he made some excellent saves.

Henri Camara has got to be up there with the worst.
Not the best, but Paul Gallagher was a godsend in the season of 'seckshy fottball' under Boskamp.
