EA and Game have said games will be £55
However, this hasn't come from Sony so it's fair to say that EA and Game are thieving cunts

That'll be RRP, as are most current gen games. I reckon most online stores will be £39.99-45 max.

The RRP is set by the company themselves though isn't it? That price was set by EA and Game, not Sony Santy.. help?

They did the same when PS3 was released but I don't think i've ever seen a game that expensive this gen.
PS2 games were commonly 55 quid around the first months of launch though.
Obviously the changing face of online retail has had a massive influence on this and with the competition on the internet being so fierce, as Lew says you'll be able to get any game for around 40 squid.

The RRP is indeed set by the producer of the game & then the retailer chooses what to charge (producers can insist on a minimum fee - which is why some game prices don't go down below like £20-£25 even after several years have passed). This isn't the developers, so the company who makes the game have no choice over that (like for example, infinity ward with CoD or sports interactive with FM) the company that produces the game sets the RRP. EA & Activision will be trying to push the RRP baseline higher, what they will often do is set an RRP and then charge £10 less.
The RRP for the CoD series now is £65 - most places will sell it for £55. Usually for the first few months, to capitalise on eager/hardcore games they will sell games at RRP and then after 6-9 months the price will probably come down to £45-£50.
Steam is a prime example, but bizarrely despite the promise of lower costs for getting games online - due to lower overheads, you pay a premium for the convenience of using origin or steam at the moment.
EA & Activision are more than happily looking forward to shafting us with the new consoles. If the £ gets much weaker against the $ don't be surprised to see that used as an excuse to fleece us even more (like Microsoft did), even though were things to reverse and we get back to £1 = $2 exchange rate we wouldn't see any benefit.

It is strange how the disc versions on pc cost less than the downloadable version most of the time.

Some hype train videos are being roled out. Can't say I can relate to the guys in the first video in any way, shape or form, but it brings back some good memories, even if I was Nintendo all the way up to the PS2.
