Could u see Wilson bullying a full back? It was a wank sub It wasn't a like for like sub though, he wasn't brought on to do the job that Arnie did. You've missed the point. He shouldn't have shut up shop straight after half time. Sitting on a lead for a full half against man utd is suicidal. We should have bought Assaidi on and tried to play like we did in the first half. Its cost us the game

We had them playing with a bit of fear, that we'd hit them on the break as others have done this season. By putting Wilson on we changed that. We took away the fear and in my opinion handed them a big handful of motivation and confidence that they could come at us with less fear of a counter. Add to that Whelan .... fucking Whelan ... What does he EVER do Make no mistake, the shit were there for the taking today. We took our foot off the gas and they overran us.

I was more surprised that Wilson didn't go to full back, with Cameron moving to the wing tbh.

So gutting today. We played so well, for so long. Not getting in to the debate about the Wilson sub too much but I could see the thinking behind it, provide more cover on that side where despite how poor Nani was they were getting down that flank a lot.
And we didn't sit back and shut up shop at all. We looked to continue to do what we had been doing in the first half, soak up their pressure and hit them hard when we broke their play up in midfield. In reality we were forced to defend more in the second half by a team that contained Rooney, Van Persie, Kagawa etc etc. away at Old Trafford against 75,000 home fans, you can't play a team with so much quality (despite how 'poorly' they may be playing at the min) and not expect to spend time on the back foot at some period in the game.
My main memory today will be the sight of the Stokies in the away end going mental twice, I was exactly diagonally opposite to the away end and it looked fucking ace when they went mental when we scored. I think I sat on my hands and let out some sort of a high pitched squealing noise, managed to get away with it just and make it out alive!

So, what do we think of THE team we started out with? How did it look live?

I can understand why Wilson was brought on, and what he was intended for. But it doesn't change the fact that it was a really fucking shit sub. As was Adam coming on. Especially after all of Hughes' talk about going there and attacking, it was a bottle sub, Pulis would've been lynched for making that sub. I said all of this at the time so it can't just be said to be hindsight. The way we're defending at the moment we're just not good enough to see out a game like that. The first goal was class and excellent movement by RVP, look where he started from. The other two were mostly down to sloppy defending.

Just seen this from another forum.
I've waited all my life for Stretford to become a laughing stock and my prayers have been answered. Pathetic display. Watching them hoof long balls as Stoke play 'proper' football, it's bizarre.

The momentum was killed off as soon as we didn't bring Assaidi on for Arnautovic. He was bringing the ball forward quickly and directly, getting the ball forward and allowing us to counter which was causing United massive problems, as proven by the number of chances we created by doing this time and time again in the first half. By replacing a pacy winger for another, there was more chance that momentum could've been maintained. Also, fresh, quick legs on the left wing would've been far more useful than Wilson.
Hughes bottled it with that sub, I understand the logic in bringing Wilson on because United weren't troubling us at all but that was down to the way we were playing, attacking was becoming the best way of defending by getting the ball down the other end and pressing from the front.
That said, I'm proud of the lads for producing our best performance at Old Trafford since we were promoted, I'm proud Hughes gave it a proper go like he said he would and if we carry that level of performance on throughout the rest of the season, we'll be just fine.
