I think you two take all of this abit fucking seriously to be honest, it's just the footy. If you hate it so much, why follow it? Because you both seem to genuinely like nothing about the game, and especially the game from a club like Stoke's perspective (apart from when we win of course, that's ace). It's not 'just footy' .... Supporting a club like Stoke for over 49 years becomes a part of your soul. It is far beyond footy. I honestly wish I didn't care but it's like when you love a woman for a very long time. I was born and raised in Stoke, and they have always been a huge part of my life. I have lost jobs, girlfriends, and a lot more through my love of Stoke City. They are MY club. I'm sticking with my 'you take this too seriously' point ;D Although it does explain why you were annoyed YOU'RE club weren't signing the players YOU wanted.

I don't follow it half as much as I used to. I'm at the point where I won't even be that arsed if we get relegated. I'll be annoyed at first but 10 mins later ill be fine and carry on with my life. I won't be wasting much of my money next season. I'll just get a ticket last minute if there's a cheap one going if I fancy it.

It's only a game with 22 blokes kicking a sheeps bladder between some sticks, in Spanish football, they didn't used to take the bladder out of the sheep until 1952

I was born and raised in Stoke, and they have always been a huge part of my life. I have lost jobs, girlfriends, and a lot more through my love of Stoke City. They are MY club. This (up to a point). If, Banj, you can take it less seriously, then entirely fair enough. I'm a bit like Sausage, Stoke is in my blood and I often wish I didn't care as much as I do but I suspect it always will matter even if I try to force myself to concentrate on the more important things like family, job, money, mortgage, health etc etc. Even being able to rationalise and do that, losing 3-2 at Man U after being 2-1 up with less than 10 mins to go still felt like a kick in the nuts, even if it was entirely unsurprising. It's the fact that we care that makes the unbalanced nature of the so-called competition so galling, especially if you're a bit older like we are and can remember things like an inspirational manager winning the league after being promoted the year before (Clough with Forest). Nowadays you've 'succeeded' if you stay up! You've basically won the league if you finish 9th after being promoted! It's a joke of a division and a joke of a 'contest' - I just wish more people would say this openly and consistently on 606 and the like. Even the idiots at UEFA have had to recognise that the element of competition is so lacking these days that they have been forced to bring in the Financial Fair Play rules. We all know that these are a complete farce with as many loopholes as there are clauses, and that the actual reality is UEFA's flagship competition is designed purely to make richer the clubs which already dominate financially, but at the very least it is an open recognition of the problem. Maybe you're the future, Banj, the fan who can take or leave football as just one of the myriad forms of entertainment available on any given Saturday. If so, I'd be a bit worried for the future of the game when those make up the majority over the die-hards. I've watched MoTD once this season, I can't remember the last time I sat through an entire live game, I gave up my ST this season. Yet I am lucky enough to have the cash to go to games if I wanted to or subscribe to Sky if I wanted to. I would think I am the kind of cash cow the clubs and PL and Sky should be doing everything they can to get it out of my pocket. This afternoon I'm taking my daughter to a dance competition and I don't give a shit about missing the game even when it's on free-to-air tv. And that's all because I think the outcome is foregone, money will triumph once again, what's the fucking point. Way too serious I agree ;D

That's a good point about the different generations Turts, I mean I grew up in a different town hearing about Stoke from relatives and Sentinel cuttings, going whenever my Dad could take a Saturday off work (which was rare outside of school holidays), these days all the news is instantly online, I can go to whatever games I want and watch the rest online, and we're (relatively) competitive in the top league in world football. I've never known it this good, even when we're shit. I never said that I can 'take it or leave it' though, just that I can separate it from what actually matters. I love Stoke, too much sometimes which seems to be a theme, game days it completely determines my mood, from elated after a win to depressed after a pasting, but the following days I can appreciate it's only a game and it's better to laugh than cry.

I may be in a bit of a crossroads with my life come the Summer, might need to move away to find the work which I want.
But I can't imagine not going every Stoke home game because it's been a constant in my life since a very young age.
A better life or work in a job I hate, being paid peanuts so I can watch Stoke?
A better life has to win, even though my main passion in life is Stoke.
Just hope I can stay within the local area, doing something I like.

Let's be honest it about though, the last time we (or any club outside the top 6/8) genuinely had a chance of winning the league was in the 70's and that is the same for nearly every one of the 92 football league clubs. But people still go week in week out because they love the sport and love watching their club whatever division they are in. Some people would probably enjoy us being relegated back to the Championship where we would have a chance of winning a trophy and away from the Sky/Media circus that is the Prem. Crowds would dwindle back to the standard 16,000ish diehards (unless we were near the top) and some people may enjoy it more?
After watching us in the lower leagues for nearly all my life (first game I went to was the holocaust season in '84) I still loving being in the Prem, testing ourselves against the best in the world, being on MOTD each week, having a near full house each week, even though I know we have zero chance of actually winning the league. The Prem is still way more competitive than all the major European leagues on a week to week basis and as much as I hate how a lot of football has changed these days, I still love the game and watching us every week, I don't think I could ever give it completely.

I live in London and still get to plenty of games. If it's what you still love doing you'll always find a way, even if its just going to ore away games than home ones.
