Haven't looked at any nags yet but I always have a punt on the national... Will probably wager £20-30 (plus the obligatory sweepstakes), but this year I intend to make a profit.
Any tips / thoughts / where your money's going?
NB I'm not arsed if it is or isn't cruel so don't start the bloody annual animal welfare bullshit bollocks.

The hardest race in history to predict. Stay away from McCoy, zero value in backing him tomorrow as Shutthefrontdoor will go off short. Maybe a wee cover bet if you believe in fairytales.  Best bet is picking 4-5 bigger prices. Think Unioniste will go well and is owned locally by Neptune Collonges (33/1 winner 2 years ago) owner Mr Hales. Balthazar King has purposely aimed for this race missing Cheltenham and finished 2nd last year(I'm on him ante post at 16/1). Same goes for Rocky Creek (3rd last year) and both are pretty short in National terms but likely on merit (unlike the favourite). Nina Carberry bids to be the first female to win it and her mount First Lieutenant is a very capable horse. I'll back 5 In the morning and cross my fingers, I could see any of about 30 horses winning tomorrow so whatever wins will need ability and a huge slice of luck. Mugs race ;D |

It's certainly a mugs race, most gamblers don't touch it... I haven't picked a winner / turned a profit in about 6-7 years!
But it's bloody good fun betting on the national, especially if a few of you're all watching it together.
I'm liking the look of "Soll", I'll pick a few more based on name / the tips in the sun!
A woman will defo win the national in my lifetime so maybe this us the year? I've backed a woman jockey for the last few years unsuccesfully so may have to back that just in case.

Had Druid who was going great until he did a Theo Walcott and fell under no challenge and also Monbeg Dude who came third.
Sad to see racism rear it's ugly head as Soll would surely have won if he wasn't black.
