Sounds a bit silly, but how do you get involved in it? I want to do some charity work, not just because it looks gone on your CV, but I want to help out and make the world a better place. ;D Advice/help, tar.

Yeah, I was looking at DLT, but it's mainly for when they have stuff on when they're looking for voluntary work. I've got this guys number(from the DLT), I'll ring him on Monday, and see if he has anything. Thanks.

Don't do anything for most of the big 'name' charities as they spend quite a big percentage on 'head office' expenses.Do something local and let them reap the rewards.

I'm sure the amount the big names actually hand over in 'real' help varies but the fact remains that unless you are going to go for the 'build a school in Africa' option which looks good on the CV (which isn't of course to suggest that's the reasoning behind it), then I would certainly start with local charities which will as Nonington says be of more real benefit to all concerned.. ps.Should you be fortunate enough to win the lottery I will forward to you details of my own 'personal' charity... ;D

My own suggestion would be to find a local charity and based on something that you feel passionate about. I usually donate to homeless charities but also to Dougie Macs purely because I've seen first hand the excellent work they do. I know that Sal mentioned Arch some years ago on a previous thread and that's probably a decent place to enquire. Have some karma Edit. I hope this is not a cunning plan to get the karma back

Go into Oxfam and volunteer in there, they love that on your personal statement, which is why you want to do it isn't it?

Cheethams is a great idea, Samaritans can always do with fundraising help too - but what's really close to your heart, that's going to be the best idea in the long run?

Applied to a few places. Really, really, really want to get in at DLT in Trentham. Look at a few things and it's the exact thing I want to go, it's amazing. I just want to do this, I've just realised. Call me a soppy cunt but I wanna go to Africa, cure the world of Malaria, go to Japan and stop the earthquakes and change the world.
