Right, now we've only got about three weeks left to get players signed, who can we see coming in? We've been linked with Palacios, Barton, Bendtner, Crouch and SWP in the past couple of days but there's no way that all of these are going to come off as I don't think we could afford them all, quite simply.
I can see us getting Palacios but I bet it drags on until the end of August. Highly Likely
I can see Crouch turning us down which, although I'd love him here, would probably be a good thing because of his age, wages and subsequent re-sale value. If he did sign, though, I'd still be chuffed because he could be awesome. But a very expensive awesome. Unlikely
I can see us being one of the front runners for Barton but I think he'll hold out for the best move he can possibly get. If Arsenal are getting rid of Fabregas, I can really see him going to there. Everton would also be a preferred choice of his, I'd imagine. If he does come, it'll be at the very end of the window. Outside chance
I don't know if SWP would be up for coming as back up. His wages will be huge and he's not getting any younger either. He'd probably push Etherington and Pennant for their places which can only be a good thing but I just can't see him being sold on the idea of rotation after a couple of seasons on Man City's bench. I wouldn't mind him but I think there are younger, less expensive options out there if we want to cover the wide positions. Unlikely
Bendtner could be one of the signings of the summer if we get him. I've laughed at him when he's played for Arsenal but, truth is, he'd be perfectly suited for us - big, strong and pretty quick. Yes, he's an arrogant bastard but he's only 23 and could easily get better and better. I think he'd flourish at a club like Stoke and his signing would be jizztastical. I still think there are a lot of clubs that'd be in for him, mind. A move to the Bundesliga has been mooted and if any other top half Premier League team comes in for him, I think we'll be in the shit. I hope we can sell the club to him if we get a chance to speak to him. Likely
There's also the likes of Cameron Jerome, Carlton Cole, Kabore and others we've been linked with but the five listed above are the five biggest names so far.
I've no idea if we are in discussions with any of the above and we may be more or less advanced then we have been lead to believe. Nobody really know! This is just pure guesswork and I could be very, very wrong but it just killed 15 minutes.
How does everybody else see it?

For some reason, I think they're all unlikely expect for Palacios which I rate at 60/40. I just can't see those sorts of players at Stoke, even though they'd vastly improve us
I can see TP pulling one rabbit out of the hat, one that we didn't see coming at all

Just do what DV does chuck as many names of available players as possible up in the air and some will end up at Stoke eventually

I reckon Barton or Palacios will be the deadline day signing.
Just don't think we'll get Bendtner unfortunately.

Trouble is SRF, when we're linked to somebody Stoke fans seem to go into meltdown and think they should be signed there and then. I was pissed off when Upson signed because we don't appear to be close to anybody else in areas we NEED to strengthen. And the fact that he's dogshit. All manner of things have to be sanctioned in order for a transfer to go through. Palacios might want to come but Spurs might want more money, which we aren't willing to offer. I know it's a complicated business but we seem to take a lot, lot longer with our deals unless they're rushed through at the last minute.
We're probably not even interested in a couple of the players above and, like you say, we'll end up signing somebody out of the blue. I just hope we have somebody of decent quality in before the Chelsea game, but I can't see it.

That's the frustrating thing for me, we're crying out for another midfielder and striker but we've gone and signed a 32 year old centre back. Talk about prioritising I can't see us signing anyone for the Chelsea game on Sunday unless something drastic happens

I dunno if by signing Upson we were "prioritising" a CB, just that he happened to sign there and then- just the order in which it happened to fall.

We needed at least one player in and the priority, the time, effort and resources, should've gone on finding a new forward but instead we decided to sign Upson
