He looked decent for the little time he was on.

1st time I saw him play was in the 4-0 defeat at Pompey away in the league cup a couple of seasons ago, he looked the only decent stoke player on the pitch that night, I haven't seen him since but that was a decent performance for the time he was on last night, lovely ball through, shame about the SJW control and finish as that would have been the tie over.

Hopefully he proves all the bad reports wrong from his loan clubs and becomes half decent.

Hopefully he proves all the bad reports wrong from his loan clubs and becomes half decent. Barnsley fans actually said he started off brilliantly for them last year but tailed off mid-season and never really got back into it. I thought Brighton fans liked him as well?

It's got to have been tough for the lad. He'd already been capped by Uruguay when we signed him yet, probably rightly, was sent on loan to get a 'feel' for English football. He probably expected to be mixing it with Liverpool and Man Utd when he arrived, not getting bits and bobs of games in The Championship. He probably could have applied himself a little bit better and he's got to be a decent player to have played for Uruguay at such an early age.
I wouldn't say he's a lost cause just yet but, to get the best out of him, we (at Stoke) should've tried to involve him more in games. He probably will end up back in South America as once we get a new CM (or two) he'll be right down the pecking order again. It will probably turn out to be a bad move for him in all honesty.

Basically, we signed him but he wasn't down on his luck and feeling like it was his final chance. After loans to Barnsley and Brighton he now has the dogs home mentality that Pulis looks for.

So we're buying young prospects, breaking their spirits then building them back up again now? ;D

Agree with that... and wonder if it was Tone's tactic, he saw Diego was a cocky little sod at first and sent him out for a bad time? I wouldn't put that past Tone...

He still can't speak English, which is a major negative for the lad.

He still can't speak English, which is a major negative for the lad. Suprised at that, he's been here 2 years, he's got no excuse, and that shows a real bad attitude whats the situation with his work permit, do they still have to play a certain percentage of games to get it renewed ?

I am really pleased for Diego to be honest, he gets a chance to have a crack at the first team hopefully we can see the fruits of DK's scouting efforts for a whole fucking season
