God there's some anger here, I'm just delighted Dave P's getting his chance in the pro game and I'm chuffed for his dad and the rest of the family too. It's hardly like Stoke's academy feeds the first team a new regular per season, is it? I second Oners's viewpoint that he's mental for turning Ajax down, it's insane I want the lad to do well but I think there's zero realism in what him and his old man think in regards to where he can be and where he can get to. Another two years at Academy level at one of the best Academies in the world would further his development massively But, I'm not him, I'm not Mark, his choice, meh

Jimmy, you're on a formal warning. Doesn't matter that Mark's not a member on here, that post was actionable and this so isn't the time to risk that kind of deep shit.

Sometimes loyalty can blind what is good for you...no dishonour in that just sometimes it can hamper or severley damage a career, I know I fucked that one up in my teens big stylee

I've never seen an area better at making talented people lose their nerve and not have the careers they should.

This thread really is covering different grounds isn't it? ;D
I'm glad I've been cured of S-o-T AIDS because the world outside of it, even in this country, is far better

Mine was fook all to do with S-o-T it was due to bad judgement and being very naive, however in football terms being loyal is great but only and I mean only if the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is actually acheivable and not just based on promises

The other thread is locked on the main board, probably wisely; but it's interesting to read that Sal/Mark, so thanks I was genuinely intrigued why he didn't go there, but I suppose as a young player, going there is just as much of a risk as not going there, and it must be the same for every single decision in a career like football. If he gets into first team football from a young age, it will have paid off, and I hope it does. Anyway, obviously I wish him all the best and hope he makes it in the future, it would be great to have another Stokie do well for themselves and make it on to the big stage. The last thing I would do is wish him any ill in his career, and I was definitely just teasing if it ever seemed like I did

Lads and academies is an absolutely impossible subject. My lad, his mates and his teammates have been in around all the local academies for the last six years or so and I've spoken to more than a few unhappy parents and usually at Stoke. If you think it's bad for outfield players coming through at Stoke then spare a thought for goalies.I can only wish Mark's lad the very best of luck. On a separate note my lad got off his X-box live bed yesterday to help his under 13s team beat an under 15 side at Nantwich yesterday with only three overage players in the side Just one last thought on the subject whilst most of us can take personal criticism the criticism of one's offspring, intended or not is much harder to take.

Agreed JL can get quite fiesty when underhand digs are given to young uns. Sport where your juniors are involved is sometimes like powder keg of emotions XBox Live bed ;D

Don't see how you're slating his decision not to go to Ajax, goalkeeping development is worlds apart from the outfield player development that Ajax are renowned for. Also less chance of being spotted by Premiership clubs, which is obviously ultimately his aim. Also it's a foreign country and you're unlikely to get much game time, and you don't know the details of the contract offered either, might not have been enough to make a living, after all it's a lot to sacrifice further education for a football career and you'd want a decent wage as a starting block. In my opinion he has made the right decision by holding out for a league 1 club who will take him on and give him some game time, they're likely to pay more and career prospects within the english game will be enhanced by playing lower league. Good luck to the lad I say, it would be nice to see another successful keeper to come out of our academy system.
