I'm surprised all these deals must be upfront if he's had to get out that much cash himself. Remember the club never has all that much in its reserves, we have an income of £60m or so but it isn't sat there in the clubs account so either we had to have an overdraft (Everton style) or Coates stump up the cash.
If Coates converts this loan to the club into shares (as he's done previously) then we would actually have a bigger wedge of cash in the bank next summer to go out and buy with, alternatively he may just take a bit back from each monthly income in a manner that is sustainable.

I can't get my head round how a club could be self sufficient with the money that's spend on transfer fees and in particular wages but then I'm not a savvy business man. Are we talking about selling on developed youth players for x millions?

This business kind of weirds me out. Think about it for a second.
We get a minumum of what? £35 million a year(ish) through Sky, £9.9 million through season tickets (based on 22,000 @ c.£450 a head (with refreshments, kickbacks etc that won't be far off), £2.6 million in additional ticket sales and let's be low and say £3 million a year from Britannia, Adidas and stadium sponsorship. Now we have the £1 million from europa league qualification and £1 million in gate receipts form that tournament (based on 25,000 taking up the £40 offer. It'll be OK as a means average.
That gives Stoke a very rough income of about £52,500,000 a year. Now i'm not saying that Coates doesn't make every scrap of money available for Pulis. He's certainly not looking for anything out of it, that's for certain. But he hasn't spent £60,000,000 on transfers out of his own arse pocket. I'm fairly sure of that.

Coates won't always splash cash, unless it's on first class gash.
BOOM.

Vestan, I think the wage budget is over £40m now.

You have to remember some where amongst all that the club has to be run day to day, it is not only the players that get paid a wage. I can only imagine the cost of running a self sufficient premier league club will be millions of pounds?
