It's good. But it's absolutely worlds apart from the film. They're like two separate stories.

It's definitely too long, I didn't get bored whilst watching it but they could have easily taken a good half hour out. Having said that, it's a great film. 8/10 Finally watched it. Absolutely loved it. The 3 hours flew by. Great performances by everyone in it.

Has anyone seen 12 Years a Slave Yet? Don't know whether to go for that, or some easier watching in Lone Survivor.

Watched two European horror classics last night;
In a Glass cage - Brilliant, probably the darkest film I've ever seen. It's about a Nazi paedophile who tries to kill himself after killing a young lad, but ends up crippled. One of his victims turns up at his house pretending to be a nurse, but he actually wants to continue the Nazi's 'work'. I mean, what a fucking plot. 9/10
The Whip and the Flesh - Like most Italian horrors, it looks brilliant but is a little too over the top with the sexual aspects, ends up feeling quite camp. Christopher Lee is belting though, as always. 7/10

Watched Robocop last week. It's obviously a similar premise to the original but it's not a remake as such, it's pretty much a different film. Not sure if that'll be more or less upsetting to fans of the original but, as I don't care that much, I'll say that it was a passable action film.
It was Dallas Buyer's Club the week before. It was a nice story, the dialogue was decent and there were good performances from the main cast, but ultimately it was just alright because, Matthew McConnaughey's part aside, there was no character development, save for people getting AIDs-ier.
Annoyed that I appear to have missed Inside Llewyn Davis in cinemas when 12 Years a Slave, Wolf of Wall St etc are still going.

If I wanted to be put into a coma for a couple of hours I'd go and watch 12 Years a Slave.

Shutter Island. Fucking amazing 10 jizz/10. Annoyed at myself that it took me this long to watch it. Anything written by Dennis Lehane is good. Mystic River is also excellent. The books, as they always are, are much better than the films.

Inside Llewyn Davis is brilliant.
Then there's Only Lovers Left Alive. Absolutely fucking fantastic, just stunning. Definitely going to be remembered as a classic. It's just got that feel about it.

If I wanted to be put into a coma for a couple of hours I'd go and watch 12 Years a Slave. If you want to be put into a coma go to a hospital or something where there are medical experts, just have a nap in the Cinema if you really don't like the film. And by "don't like the film" I mean "already decided you're going to have the opposite opinion to the mainstream before you've even seen it".

Lord of the Rings (Fellowship and Two Towers). Haven't seen the extended editions until now. The Two Towers in particular is so much more coherent in it's story telling. The editing in the cinema releases were piss.
10/10 for The Fellowship 9.75 for Two Towers, slightly marred by some questionable acting by Elijah Wood.

It's just another one of those 2 hour cliche's though isn't it. You know, one of those films 'ooh everyone must see' or they are worthless. "OMG you just must see 12 Years .... It's sooooo soooo ...... oh yes absolutely". Does it make you feel a more rounded humanistic individual having sat through it? Do you see the suffering of others through different eyes now? Do you nod to passing black people to show you empathise with their forbears suffering ?

Btw, no to all the above questions.

Or is it that you think you'd struggle to watch the film given it's subject matter?
