Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan has no problem with football's pundits. Whelan, 27, is not afraid to self-analyse his performances, nor has he any gripe with those who make such judgements for a living. “I am critical of myself as a player and I am probably my own worst enemy at times,” said Whelan, who is now facing competition from Wilson Palacios, 27, at Stoke. “I don’t need people to tell me how well I have done or how badly I have played. I know that myself. I’ve set my standards high and I want to keep them as high as I can. “I am critical of myself and I hope that can improve me as a player. “Likewise, I can accept criticism. It is not hard for me. People have to write things and they have to keep people reading papers. Sometimes it is good, sometimes it is bad. “You can’t read the papers, see something good about you and say they are right, then say they are wrong when they write something bad about you. “It comes with the territory and it is how you get on with it. I think I have done okay. I’m thick-skinned and it doesn’t bother me. “If I play on a Saturday, by Sunday I am a different man. I try to spend my time with my young family and forget about it if a match has gone badly.” www.tribalfootball.com/node/1861081

Seems a level headed guy. Wheelan the type of player who gives all he can for a few games but then needs resting for a couple of games to recover his sharpness. Perhaps with the arrival of Palacios we can afford to do that and maybe see more consistant performances from him

Doesn't Whelan live in Kerr Katona's old house?
I wonder how he got the smell of Cocaine and rancid pissflap out of the carpets. I bet he's got shares in Fabreze now.
