Is it just me who thought Besiktas were a bit wank then? The ref had a poor game (not counting the penalty), with some strange decisions, but he wasn't helped by their constant cheating, most notably their keeper throwing himself down at every set piece to win the foul. We were the better side, even though Ethers and Pennant never really got into it, and we can get a draw at least over there. Jerome and Ethers don't look fit, Palacios is getting there, Shotton was alright defensively but hasn't quite got passing it down the line to Pennant sussed yet. Everyone else did well under the circumastances (cheating Turks and crap ref). Walters is god. Not at at all mate. My opinion of them was soured by the fact that they were a typically sly, dishonest, time wasting (especially that cunt of a goal keeper) European team. If they were 'one of the better ones', then we'll go far. I thought the only reason they looked decent at time is because of the time we allowed them on the ball without pressing. I was moaning about it, then 20 seconds later they scored because there was no urgency. Also, had someone like Huth or Ryan gone through that Quaresma at the start, I think he'd have been a little more cautious. I was baffled by just how wank the ref was too and just what the purpose those extra officials served is beyond me. I think one at the second half spotted one of their players plant one of our lads (can't remember who) on the floor as they prepared for a free kick, nothing came of it though after the ref came over. Briefly: -I thought Ethers looked more confident than he has done so far but his passing was off at times, Pennant really is a step above him. -Jerome looks like he was bags of potential for us. Can't see him being a top scorer like, but he'll do the job for us. -Palacios will be brilliant, just needs to get his fitness up to be able to do the job for 90 minutes, his quality is obvious. -Crouch was brilliant again, maybe because he was at least 2 foot above any of their squad. -Shotton, to me had his best game in a Stoke shirt from what little I've seen of him, great performance. Excellent post, I think they probably are one of the 'better' teams and will go quite a long way as a result of their gamesmanship and their atmos at their home stadium. Winning was a truly superb result and just goes to show the mental strength TP has got into the team, thrashed at Sunderland, write it off, beat Spurs on pens, fantastic against ManU, then that last night. Keep it up Tone and the lads!

Besiktas fans, Over-rated ? I thought 400 Split fans made more noise than them I can't give an opinion on the comparison dave because i wasn't at the split game. I thought they were great, not solely talking about how loud they were, just the overall package. Really added to the occasion, it was a special night for me mate, my first european tie proper and i was fairly sober which really does make a change Took a bit more in than usual

They we'rent half as rampant as the Hajduk fans were. After the winner went in, we didn't hear much from them, where the Hajduk fans decided that was the time to let flares off. But as you say Roots, they defiantly add something to what most of have never seen first hand. I'm loving these European occasions, just wish I could get to an away fixture.
