@ortizkicks: Stoke & MLS made enough progress for @geoffcameron that he's been allowed to begin negotiating a deal with EPL club. Congrats, Geoff
"Both sides have worked very, very hard over the last few days to come much closer to a transfer agreement,” said Dynamo president Chris Canetti. “There is apparent light at the end of the tunnel for a deal to be done. However there is still work to be done, but nothing is 100 percent complete at this stage"

If they're letting him discuss terms, they must be very confident a deal will be done

"I think Geoff has the mentality and all the skill-sets to succeed, but sometimes it's not always the best players that are successful," Lalas told ESPN. "You need a little bit of luck, timing and coaches that believe in you but, just on sheer ability and potential going forward, yeah, I think that Stoke and England are getting a quality player that they can be excited to see."

Asked how he would describe the centre-back, Lalas added: "He's good with the ball, he reads the game well and he's not going to lose possession of the ball while under pressure. If you're playing with Geoff Cameron, be prepared to play with the ball.
"He has the physical attributes to bang when he needs to but he also has a real confidence in the way he handles the ball and the way he passes out of the back. He can not only play at the back but also in the midfield, which gives him versatility."
Has right back written all over the lad ;D

As long as his positional sense is better than Danny Collins'/Shotton's/Wilko on a bad day/Huth/Upson/Wilson on a bad day, then I have no problem with him playing at right/left back. Seems to have the right attributes on the ball, and looks decent in the tackle from what I've seen on Youtube.
Hope he'll be a good signing.

At least Bobby Huth fucks up the shit of any winger who tries to go past him when he has to play full-back.

www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/Stoke-City-Geoff-Cameron-tipped-star-Potters-old/story-16589870-detail/story.html"FORMER Stoke favourite Adrian Heath has applauded the club's bid to sign Geoff Cameron as an apparent replacement for Danny Collins.
Collins is on his way to Nottingham Forest for around £400,000 to end an unhappy three-year stay at the Britannia Stadium following a £2.75m move from Sunderland.
Geoff Cameron has been hailed as an apparent replacement for Danny Collins by former Stoke favourite Adrian Heath.
The 31-year-old Welsh international, who was loaned out to both Ipswich and West Ham last season, is now due to fly back to the UK from Stoke's pre-season tour of the United States.
That leaves Cameron poised to plug the gap – if Stoke can agree personal terms and secure international clearance – after already shaking on a £1.6m transfer fee for the 27-year-old Houston Dynamo star.
Heath, coach of Orlando City and based in the States for the past four years, revealed he was first to alert Stoke to Cameron's potential as a defender-cum-midfielder.
"I've seen a lot of Geoff," said Heath, "and he's somebody I mentioned to the club.
"He's got all the physical attributes that Tony Pulis likes. He's a big, strong boy and an unbelievable athlete.
"He's very, very quick, has good stamina and is great in the air. He's got an awful lot of strings to his bow.
"I believe he will adjust to England. One of the advantages I have over a lot of people over here is knowing the level of league he will be going into and the type of club he will be going to.
"No-one will be too big or too strong for him and he will be able to fit straight in."
Heath acknowledges the speed of the English game will be a test initially, but argues Cameron has the physical attributes to meet those demands.
"The one thing about American players," he states, "is that physically they are great athletes.
"The speed of the game is something he will have to get used to in England, but it's something he will adapt to."
Cameron's versatility will be crucial to the Stoke squad, but Heath added: "I've seen him play really well at the back, in a defensive midfield role and in an attacking midfield role when he's been a huge threat.
"I really think he will be a good signing for the club."
