It's always been the same with Stoke, put us up against top opposition in the cup and the players excel themselves. Play supposedly lesser opposition and the players are never at 100%.

Massive hats off to Swindon.
Don't want to sound like an Oatcake warrior, but we would never have the bottle to go out and play like that away to any team, never mind a team 2 league above us!

Good enough - Begovic & Sorensen (even though he sounded like he had a mare tonight), Cameron, Huth, Shawcross, Wilson (not at LB though), Walters, Kightly & Crouch
The rest are average at best (most are shit though especially Shotton) or on their way (Kenwyne), Ness on initial impression looks more of an Andrew Davies than a Ricardo Fuller, Pennant god knows what goes on that lads head, Palacios wants to go and has never looked interested in wanting to get fit. As you guys know im far from negative overall; but this one is just staring at my face. We cant trust Pulis with large amounts of cash because he's pretty crap with it; but we need spend to get the quality in or else its going be a tough season.

Wonder if Uncle Peter will find his cheque book after tonights exit?
or will he think fuck it as a good cup run would have generated at least a couple of million?
also will TP play nine defenders against Wigan now after conceding four goals tonight?
and another thought......... actually fuck it.... BEER!

God that was poor.
All the goals came from crosses/high balls into the box which we didn't deal with. Two from set pieces which is criminal for a team with so much height.
Tonight showed how vital Ryan is in our back line.

Pulis warned: “They are very well organised — and for all of the attacking flair associated with Di Canio, I think he’s brought a little bit of Italian steel to their defence. “It’s a big game for them and a banana skin for us.”

For me I think we need 2 new fullbacks. Another CM, and a striker who can create his own chances.
Begovic, Shawcross, Huth, JP, Cameron, Kightly and Crouch are all good enough for our first XI. JP and Crouch need to up their game from Sunday though...
Sorrenson, Upson, Wilson, Whitehead, Ethers, Jerome and KJ are all worth a place on the bench.
Wilko is an ok squad player, as is Ness, as is Walters.
I'd be happy to bin the rest of them off. Palacios should fetch a bit of dollar. Whelan too. The others can fuck off on a free! At least it's them off the wage bill.
Problem is Pulis will persist with his favourites I.E Walters, Whelan etc. so the players we bring in will be kept out by them/replace the players worthy of a place.
I'd be happy with Olsson/Kieran Richardson at LB, N'Zonzi or Huddlestone loan in CM and I'd actually be very pleased with Bendtner for the right price. He'd be the sort of player Tone could get firing, and on form he is a class act. No idea who could come in at RB. Surely even Alan Hutton is better than what we already have!

First half they were all fucking terrible apart from Whitehead who was ok. 2nd half the defence remained dog shit but Cameron got himself in the game and Kightly started doing the basics a winger should do.
The defence let us down with their 3rd and Jerome and Jones didn't look interested. If we'd brought on Crouch and Walters 5 minutes earlier I think we'd have won in normal time. Ness going off ultimately killed us off.

Trying not to have an oatcake style meltdown here Absolutely atrocious, we were outclassed by Swindon, who looked very good. Worst defending in recent memory, we crumbled to their attacks so easily. We could have been 4/5 down by half time. Sort it out Pulis cups are our only chance of winning something.

My take on the game: We looked so much better with Walters and Crouch up front. Jon took his goal well, and his assist for Crouchy's was a stunning cross considering it was a half-volley. He held up the ball well and laid it off, which was his job and he did it very well. It was really easy to see why Pulis loves him so much tonight, we looked so much more threatening when he came on and did the job Jerome couldn't. Some of his tracking back was brilliant, winning balls on the edge of our area, he chased every ball, putting pressure on the defence and 'keeper. Nothing I can criticise him for from that performance. Jerome spent most of the game with his back to goal and never really got the chance to use his pace to run at the defence or on to through balls. He was completely ineffective, but he can't take 100% of the blame for that, he didn't get the service to suit his game. There were times when he didn't make the runs he should have though. In the first half Kightly dummied a shot and tried to play a through ball to him, as soon as Jerome saw him winding up for a shot, he just stopped running, so the pass went miles ahead of him. Kenwyne missed a couple of headers a player like him should be burying, both from very good balls in from Pennant. He could and should have had a hattrick tonight. In fairness though, he was always in the right place at the right time, just a shame he only finished off one of his chances. Lost his man for their second goal though which is disappointing. Cameron started quite poorly unfortunately, but as the game went on he got into it a bit more. His run and pass to Kightly in the build up for the first goal was brilliant, and exactly the kind of thing we've been looking for our midfielders to do. (Kightly's cross was brilliant too and Kenwyne finished it well.) Geoff got about well and made some good tackles, (he does jump into them though, so it's quite easy to turn or dummy him.) He played a few good balls which didn't quite work out, but the ideas were good, and hopefully when he's spent a bit longer with the rest of the team, they'll come off more. He made one good run into the box to get on the end of a through ball, (breaking out of the cage!) and even though he couldn't finish it, it was nice to see a midfielder that far up the pitch - hopefully a sign of things to come. Ness played pretty well for the short time he was on the pitch, but his positioning wasn't great, he kept getting pulled too far forward leaving a massive gap behind him which Huth had to fill in, leaving a massive gap in the centre. Probably his first competitive game at left back though, so can't be too critical. On a positive note, he takes a damn good corner! Unfortunately it looked like his groin went, which is the problem he had at Rangers. Really hope he isn't out for long, because he looked good in possession and could definitely do a job on the left or in the middle, but it didn't look great Pennant and Kightly were very good going forward, some great balls in and they both seemed to have license to cut inside and run at the defence. They definitely didn't hug the touchline, and when they took the ball inside their fullbacks, it was probably the most dangerous we looked. They had the end product too with some really good crosses, and on another day could have had 4 assists between them. They both gave absolutely everything they had and looked knackered at the end. We were really poor defensively, and like I said above, it really showed how massive Ryan is for us. Upson was very average I thought, and Huth didn't have his best game, he looked slow and tired. We got murdered in both full back areas, and when Wilson or Shotton made a mistake, they just didn't have the pace to keep up with their wide men and couldn't recover. I'm not sure I've ever seen a Pulis side so poor on defending set pieces. Their third goal was a flick on from an unmarked player, which was headed in by another unmarked player. Sorensen looked dodgy with crosses and that cost us, (although he was very safe when it came to shot stopping.) I'm not sure anyone will have been arsed to read this far ;D But anyway, there were definite positives there tonight, I thought the wingers, Walters and Cameron, (at times,) looked good, (albeit against a league 1 side, but still), and Ness showed signs that he could be a bargain, but there weren't really any positives to take from our defensive performance. We were unsettled, nervy and sloppy defensively, which is disappointing after we looked so solid against Arsenal. Fortunately with Ryan, Wilko and Bego to come back for Wigan, we should be back to our best. Unfortunately Ness is probably out for a while and half our team will be absolutely knackered tonight, I just hope they can all recover in time for Wigan. If anyone could be arsed to trawl through that then congratulations ;D

Congratulations to me then ;D; sounds better than what others have been saying; but are us ones that are a bit worried in the right to be if we dont make a few signings?
