There's a fucking wealth of amazing musical scores / songs out there from games. Post your favourites, original or recreated.
Ellie "We don't have to do this...." (Joel picks up a machete) Ellie "....you know that, right?"
How they managed such an epic score on a 16 bit cartridge I'll never know. Powerful feeling of isolation on a barren planet. Metroid is full of fantastic songs, this is the intro theme.
First time I booted up Zelda for an epic journey and was greeted with the tranquil opening on Hyrule field. Fucking magic.
As a kid discovering music this was just such a massive tune. They never recaptured the power behind it in future iterations.
Seeminly out of place in a Silent Hill game, but such a beautiful and well placed track summing up the lonliness and setting in the knowledge that shortly you're no longer safe, about to enter a world of fucked up.
When this was first revealed at E3, it was just out of this world. A little bit Hollywood, but seeing next gen characters from faces that were just pixels on the PS1 come to life was brilliant.
Journey helped along by a fantastic backtrack
So fucking moving
Sonic was littered with catchy looping music, this is one of the best. You think you're towards the end of the game and you have to go through this gauntlet.

I loved the soundtrack to Far Cry 3. It was beautiful. The ending song was just fantastic.
Gutted when I finished this game.
I've been looking for a song which was used in a Mass Effect 3 trailer and also a trailer in an Assassin's creed trailer but I have no fucking idea what it's called and cannot find it to save my life.

Metal Gear Solid 3 takes some beating for me. It's got 2 of my favourite ever gaming moments:
Just after that last boss in the bed of flowers and petals. The end credits have never seemed so poignant.
After the pretty epic boss battle that could have lasted a couple of hours in that jungle, the long ladder climb to the mountain was brilliant. It made it feel like you'd traveled some distance in a way that fading to a cut-scene couldn't have done and the acapella of the theme tune fading in as you got higher was fab.
God I loved that game.

The best game music I've ever heard in a game was in the old Battlefield 1942 for the PC. It was awesome. I also liked the Everquest music back in the day. Modern games use too much shite hip hop and similar bollocks.

Sets the tone of the game. Sombre, acceptance, finality.
