Getting 3 points against anybody with our new style and our front three is a great job done.

Seriously need a striker who can play up top on their own, but we've done brilliantly to win that without one! Hopefully should be our last Premier League match with that problem.
Pieters didn't start off brilliantly but the longer the game went on, the better he looked. Some brilliant crunching tackles and one fantastic run down the wing with a great cross to finish it off. Really positive stuff and £3m could end up looking like an absolute bargain.
Wilson was so much better this week, did give it away poorly a couple of times but kept it well and made a few nice turns out of danger which put us on the front foot.
Not a great first half, but until they scored we were on top, but second we were much improved. First win should settle everyone down hopefully.

Surely Shawcross is in line for an England call up?
That was fucking vintage England centre half stuff. Awful defensively, some absolute stinking passes and a goal. An absolute shoe in for Gary Cahill!

He had an absolute 'mare with the Chamakh goal. Much better second half though.
Huth was an absolute machine in the last half hour, put in some absolute crunchers. Beautiful stuff.

An absolute shoe in for Gary Cahill! Three awful mistakes in the first half, lucky that only one resulted in us conceding a goal but after scoring Ryan is almost guaranteed to be in Garth Crooks team of the week.

That was possibly Ryan's worst performance in the first half for years. But credit to him, he could have regressed in the second, Hughes probably gave him some good words of advice and he came out and bossed it, scoring the winning goal.
Rectified. We really deserved the win. Lots of work to do and a few signings away from where we need to be but really happy. I'm fucking loving going to games again.

1st half we looked very comfortable and passed it around very well, they scored & we lost our confidence which after last season is no surprise, Shawcross was terrible, but considering it happens once in a blue moon, you can't moan at him.
2nd half we looked very good, certainly proves Sparky can get the lads going, Palace are certainly destined for relegation, but still a very professional performance.
Walters, Pieters & Etherington were top of the class today, I was slating Matty pre-game, but it was his best performance in 2 years without question, however we can't rely on him, far from.
Adam was very much needed for creativity, I know he's not everyone's cup of tea; but you can't deny he's the only creative spark we have in the team, however glad he took him off when he did because Palace were always going give it one last go, that was very good management by Hughes.
Overall, encouraging stuff, but we need the attacking options improved before 2nd September.

Crouch and Ethers were both quality today

Crouch had a decent 25/30 mins in the second half, not suited to the role at all. He'll dick the Championship with 'Arry though.

Pieters man of the match for me. His initial burst forwards in the 2nd half led to the 1st goal, and he was also heavily involved in that excellent 25 minute spell in the 2nd half. He looked solid in the tackle too, a bit like Huth but perhaps less hard.
Worried that better teams will punish all those sloppy mistakes, Palace even made us pay for one of them, but hopefully as the team gets to know the style better we'll see less mistakes. If we can just be a bit more clinical upfront (we need someone more like Diouf rather than Crouch as the lone striker, or 2 players with more pace and skill than Walters and Etherington to link up with Crouch better), then I think we'll be alright.
