From the Press Conference:
Friday September 27, 2013 12:58
stokecityfc.com: Good afternoon and welcome back to stokecityfc.com for live text updates from Mark Hughes' pre-match press conference, direct from the Club's Clayton Wood Training Ground. 12:59
stokecityfc.com: Hughes is expected inside the press room imminently, so keep your eyes out for his thoughts on the upcoming game against Norwich City. 13:23
stokecityfc.com: The gaffer is in the building... 13:25
stokecityfc.com: MH: We played very well against Arsenal. Possession wise we were dominant; especially in the second half. The only disappointment was conceding the goals that we did - they were very un-Stoke like. Having looked back at the game though, it was a very even game. To go there and perform to the level that we did was very encouraging for us. 13:26
stokecityfc.com: MH: We picked ourselves up and performed well at Tranmere too. We had something like 700 passes in that game, so we are improving and the lads are playing in a confident manner. We will get better though, there is no doubt about that. 13:26
stokecityfc.com: MH: We have one or two bumps and bruises from the game, but nothing too worrying. They will all be fine for Sunday. The lads who had a break on the night are refreshed too, so we are looking forward to the game. 13:27
stokecityfc.com: MH: I am convinced that at some point things will turn and we will score a greater amount of goals. We are certainly creating chances, and that is encouraging. I think it is only a matter of time until we really take the game to somebody and score quite a few goals. 13:27
stokecityfc.com: MH: If we can keep doing what we are doing then we will win more games than we lose this season - I am certain of that. 13:29
stokecityfc.com: MH: I have good quality and good ability in many, many positions. We have enough players here to get us through a long hard season. There are good players who haven't even made the bench recently, so seeing them perform well in midweek was fantastic. 13:29
stokecityfc.com: MH: This is a big fixture for us. We have had a very difficult start to the season, so to have the points that we have on the board already is pleasing. Three more on Sunday would ensure a very good start for us. We have a good run of fixtures coming up after the weekend too, so the chance is there for us to go and show what we are capable of doing this season. 13:31
stokecityfc.com: MH: We are enjoying what we are doing at the moment, playing well and we are looking forward to every game that comes along. Norwich will accept that it is a difficult game for them, but we know that it won't be easy neither. That said, we are looking to go out there and win the game. We want to get as many points as we can this season, particularly at home. 13:34
stokecityfc.com: MH: I really think that the supporters are happy with what we are producing. Had we been able to convert a number of chances we had against Manchester City then we would have won that game comfortably. It's been a good start for us, and the fans seem to be embracing it. 13:36
stokecityfc.com: MH: It was always our intention to get Jack Butland out on loan. It was vitally important to get him out to allow him to continue is development. He is an outstanding young talent and somebody we have incredibly high hopes for. We will keep a close eye on him, and he will come here on certain days to maintain the work he has been doing with us. It is a good move for him, and he will learn a lot from it. He has the potential to be the next England 'keeper. 13:37
13:37
stokecityfc.com: MH: It doesn't surprise me to see Asmir Begovic's name linked with other clubs because he is an outstanding goalkeeper. I don't know how much of it is just speculation though. 13:38
stokecityfc.com: MH: Matthew Etherington has a bit of whiplash which is a worry. He had a bit of an incident in a taxi this morning; but hopefully he is going to be ok for the weekend. 13:40
stokecityfc.com: MH: Because of the group that we have here I was always confident that they would embrace the players that we have brought in this season. They have settled in well, and I think everyone can see the quality that each of the five players possess. We will see better things from each of them the longer time goes on, and I am excited by them.

I agree with most of what he's said there. To come away from a run of fixtures including Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool and be thinking that we should've probably had 5 points more based on performances is fucking excellent.

Ethers tried to do a runner without paying and was rugby tackled by the driver, an over weight 50 year old.

As I'll be going work and won't finish until 12:30, I'll be wearing Stoke shorts (blue ones), with a Stoke top...would this class me as a full kit wanker?

1:30 PM is neither here nor there.
Always end up pissed because I don't have enough time between waking up and getting to the pub for a sufficient meal. And if I watch the other games as well I end up leathered

Had Stoke to win 2-1, Huth and Arnautovic anytime.
Fancy them to go 1 up with another set piece goal, Arnie to score and absolute rocket which will go in off the bar, then Hoot to nut one in!

I think Huth will nut the bar and the ball at the same time (the ball goes in of course), then get up & then just crip walks off with a massive spliff hanging out of his gob.

Marko in for Ethers, apart from that it's the same team as last week.
Assaidi on the bench, Marty doesn't make the squad after his minor women's whiplash.
