Downloaded it from PSN on Friday. Knew nothing about the game, turned off the lights, had some drinks and turned the volume up. What an utterly fucking terrifying experience. I've not been that tense (steady) playing a game since Silent Hill 2. Some great little touches to make you feel a better sense of immersion.

Resi 4 never did it for me. Roundhouse kicking the locals in the face, clunky controls, seriously camp characters and voice acting... It's an average action game I guess.

Whaaaaaaaa? I fucking love Resi 4. One of my favourite ever games. The part where you're stuck in the cabin with locals climbing through the windows is brilliant. As for Outlast, I completed that cunt last week. It's a great game but prepare for many soiled pants Lew. Scared the shit out of me several times. It's scarier than Amnesia and that terrified me. Wait till you meet the doctor, he's lovely.

It just didn't push my survival horror buttons for me at all I think it was because I'd bought the Silent Hill 3 pack with 2, 3 and 4 in. That series left me a quivering wreck. The first sequence with the villagers was good, just not the same sense of horror, after that it was more action adventure. It was similar to getting chased by Pyramid Head in the Hospital basement in SH2, just not as good. What I'm trying to say is I think psychological horror has much more of an impact than anything RE (apart from RE: Remake- that was brilliant) did.
Met the doctor last night, he seemed very concerned for my well-being by sticking a needle in my thorax. Cool guy. Seem to be in the bowels of the asylum where some guys working his way round some concrete posts and smashing his head in. What a fucking horrible sound. Being chased by someone and being able to look behind and putting your hands on a wall before creeping round are ace little touches that nail the immersion. If a game can be scary without anything but a horrible soundtrack then that's the sign they've hit that sweet survival horror spot.

I'll give you that one Lew. I loved Resi 4 so much that I can't even remember how many times I completed it but it didn't scare me. Well apart from when you have to play as Ashley and all you had was a lantern to fight people off with. The remake and Resi 3 were far scarier.
The sound of the guy smashing his head in is ridiculous! ;D You can basically hear his skull slowly crack open. Beautiful. The soundtrack is executed perfectly. Hearing the fucking horrible noise, letting you know someone has spotted you is great. Soiled many of my tighty whities.
You seen the wall rider yet? Hate that guy.

Not been on it since last time. I'm reluctant to play it unless I'm on my own, it's dark and I can put it on loud. It results in not getting far as it's so fucking tense, but it's the only way to do it justice.
