Harsh but fair

We started off well to be fair, but it's all about moving the ball much quicker than we did and getting that final ball right. And obviously getting tighter at the back.
We've seen this weekend though every single team looked pretty rusty. We'll get there.

That first 15 minutes though... - STOKE CITY 2015/16 WINNERS -

In the second half I thought Bardsley was absolutely taken out and should have had a penalty. Seeing it again on MOTD I haven't changed my mind. Would have completely changed the game - not that we deserved to take anything from it.

Stoke City: Victor Moses to be up and running for Hull City game MARK Hughes will fast-track new signing Victor Moses into his first-team plans after being left smarting by Stoke’s opening-day loss to Aston Villa. Hughes admits that Saturday’s performance was well below standard as Stoke, showing three new faces, rarely threatened to enjoy a winning start. Moses completed his season-long loan from Chelsea over the weekend and now has a week’s training to force himself into next Sunday’s starting 11 at Hull City. Hughes acknowledged that the 23-year-old’s arrival will probably conclude in-coming transfers this window after finally pulling the plug on chasing wingers Oussama Assaidi from Liverpool and Nathan Redmond from Norwich. “We’re pleased we’ve been able to get him in,” said Hughes, “and that’s probably all our business done now. “We feel he’s a player that can give us power and give us pace and we’ve probably lacked that a bit. “Obviously we were chasing different targets, but they weren’t possible, and to have the option of Victor Moses is great because we didn’t think we would have that opportunity.” Hughes believes Moses, a Nigerian international with England youth and under-21 representation before that, is itching to re-ignite his career after just half-a-dozen league starts during a season-long loan to Liverpool last term. “He hasn’t played a great deal in the last couple of seasons, so he wants to play and he will be given that opportunity. It’s up to him if he takes it and I’m sure he will. “They (Liverpool) found a way of playing they stuck to and he was left out. I don’t think it was his fault, he just didn’t get back into the team. That can happen when you go to a big club.” Peter Odemwingie and Geoff Cameron headlined some half-a-dozen senior players not even making the bench on Saturday to leave Hughes commenting: “We’ve got a big squad and some need to go out to slim it down.” Saturday’s loss to Villa came courtesy of a 50th-minute effort from Andreas Weimann which left Hughes lamenting his side’s defending. “We made consecutive errors,” he acknowledged, “and inevitably at the end of three, four mistakes goals come from that. “We need to be better, but with the quality we have got, once we get up and running we will be fine. “This was probably a wake-up call.” There was the consolation of seeing Bojan complete his first 90 minutes in a Stoke shirt to leave Hughes confident over his future prospects. “I thought he showed glimpses in certain situations of his quality,” said the Stoke boss. “In this early period we will have to make sure he plays in the right games against the right opposition and get the best out of him.” www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Stoke-City-Victor-Moses-running-Hull-City-game/story-22761112-detail/story.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+StokeCityFootballClubNews+%28Stoke+City+News%29

I was pretty worried about Bojan as there were some pretty full on tackles coming his was, but he'd jump them and be on his way. I think he's going to be fucking awesome. Was a disappointing start, but not the end of the world. Diouf looked a little rusty on the ball from the little service he had. He's quick though, i love it when a player just catches the ball when it's passed back to their keeper. Be interesting to see what Moses can bring to the side.

Diouf for me seemed completely out of his depth first half and thought the game was crying out for Odemwingie. Hope he starts v Hull. Early days for Diouf but to date see nothing for him to justify a starting place. Didn't look.a great threat pre season either. A few reserve games and stick with the forward line that worked back end of last season until he earns a place.

Which would be Arnie-Ireland-Odem Crouch
Diouf needs games to get sharp, don't think we should stick him on the bench after 1 game, he's been brought in to be our main striker this season, so he needs a run of games in the team.

Yeah, sticking him on the bench after a single competitive game isn't going to do his confidence or match fitness any good is it? He needs time, and at this point in the season we can afford to give him that.
I think he'll quickly become the scapegoat unless he starts scoring weekly. I know there were a few grumbles towards him at the time and someone on the OC yesterday said someone behind them were comparing him to Kenwyne fucking Jones after 12 minutes.

That's exactly what I worried would happen. We love a good 'escape goat' at Stoke and he'll be it this season.

Reserving judgement on Diouf until he gets a few games up front with someone like Odemwingie or Moses on the right.
