I stopped going to away grounds many years ago because of the aggro. Final straw being nice safe QPR with a send off after the game by a few hundred Chelsea fans and several too close hooves from our friends in blue. When the brat got to about 5 he started asking to go to away matches so eventually I relented and took him to a couple of "safe" away matches. The two that immediately came to my mind were Norwich and Reading and they didn't disappoint. I have mentioned on the other thread but it was an absolute pleasure being in Norwich to the point where you can't imagine a thug in a Norwich shirt. Even after the match you could overhear polite "A draw was a fair result " comments. Even the Stoke are strong/physical comments were made without the usual snotty sneering superior voices I gathered from various comments on Sunday from people I spoke to who went to Thun (and Meggsy on here) that the Swiss experience was very much the same - great place and friendly people. It's just great to be at a footy match without having to watch your back. What's everyone else's favourite away day?

5 - 0 Stoke City v Bolton Wanderers For an actual proper away match I still think WBA v Stoke in 93 was just so immense it cannot be beat for me, everything about that day is etched in my memory forever - over 7,000 stokies there and WBA were favourites to win

Just beautiful I have only been to one away game since we hit the premiership, that being blackburn in 08/09 so i have really no contribution to make on recent years

I ♥ away trips to Fulham. It's the most bizarre, funny and depressing club all at the same time. But no agro, good pubs, a walk along the Thames and a pint by the river at half time. Lovely.
I am probably the only person who is looking forward to see the Michael Jackson statue for it's sheer novelty value alone.

Always enjoyed a good pub crawl around Shrewsbury.
Not sure about Norwich we had a scrap back in the 80's the opening day of the season when we lost 5-1, walking down the hill after getting a carry out , bunch of their guys ran at us, just as a load of Stokies were coming round the corner.

The finest ground in the Prem is Fulham, my lad think's I'm taking the Michael Proper, proper old ground, the park, the Thames, even that little lodge with the pork baps. Fantastic parking on the Embankment and then a nice walk over Putney Bridge and then there's those nice Fulham fans ;D

Had a great away day at Fulham second season in the Prem I think we lost 1 - 0 was a shit match but such a bizzare day. Especially the super fit bird dressed as a lion in skin tight leotard dishing out those chicken bite things you get. I woke up the next morning with at least 10 packs stuffed in every pocket I had available just so I could keep getting close to this super fit woman ;D

One of my favourite aways days ever was Burnley back in 1994/95. Me and me mate, his brother and his mate all went in my mates VW Polo. He'd just passed his test and as a result we got to Burnley in record time. Parked about half mile from the ground and all 4 of us went to a proper locals pub called The Angel Inn. Very friendly folk and then it was a walk down a steep road to the ground. About 3 thousand Stokies all stood in their old away end, which is now their main stand. Stoke were heading for defeat before John 'Tumbler' Dreyer scored an equalizer about 4 mins into injury time, then the mother of all mentals. Came out of the the ground and me mates elder brother warned me to keep my mouth shut as we walked back to the car with throngs of fuming Burnley fans. As he put it, "if you speak and they detected your accent, we're all fucking dead!" We then had another mental in me mates car after spending the previous 20 mins in total silence. Got back home in record time and then out up Hanley on the piss. Not really civilised i suppose but then Burnley fans never have been on the occasions ive been to Turf Moor

First time I went we were in the (then) third division and the away terrace seemed huge. It was a night match and it felt like there were only about twenty Stokies in the whole away end. It was so quiet and the game was so dull I actually fell asleep standing up.

Derby at the baseball ground was always a good 'un Fucking hell i miss those days, used to go every game without fail, there was a car of us used to leave from wolverhampton and meet some dresden stokies and the likes of cockney ted etc, always getting to the town of choice by 11am if it was a weekend game. For home games there was no need to worry about getting a ticket, just turn up and pay. I went to more games in 94/95 than i have in the last 4 years put together How the hell people afford it nowadays is greek to me. 6 games a season and i'm happy. That's your lot roots.

Never been to a civilised ground, probably because i've never been to a civilised away match ;D Fuck me this is stoke we are talking about, there is always some kind of vibe, or maybe that's not the case anymore.

In the mid 80's when we used to visit gay meadow a lot, the shropshire star would have front page headlines about the army of stokies who would be making the journey. Lock up your daughters ;D
