Never seen any of them or the Hobbit. Not sure I've got a day spare to catch up.

Never seen any of them or the Hobbit. Not sure I've got a day spare to catch up. Don't fancy them either. Had to endure the books at school due to a teacher being a relative of Tolkein and found then real dull and drawn out. Films look really well done, not quite ' Meet the Feebles' but Peter Jackson is awesome but an hour or so of the first one had me reaching for the remote.

Never seen any of them or the Hobbit. Not sure I've got a day spare to catch up. People always seem to be put off by the length of the films. The first one is 18 minutes shorter than Troy and 12 minutes shorter than Kingdom of Heaven (only 7 minutes longer than Gladiator), so they're not ridiculous long unless you're watching the uncut extended Blu-ray versions. Watch the second another night when you get into it (that's only a minute longer than the first). They're certainly epics. Absolutely shit on Troy and Kingdom of Heaven.

I think peak runtime is between 85 and 105 minutes, anything over can be a turn off. Anything over 2 and a half hours has alot to do to justify being that long, Boyhood is the only film over that that's been enjoyable for me (that I can think of anyway).

Saw in Waterstones the other day that they've made a book of the Hobbit. Pretty impressed with how they managed to condense the action from three films into a single volume.

I'd watched the first two Hobbit films again recently on Netflix, then watched the first LOTR after mentioning it on here. Just made me realise how poor The Hobbit films were in comparison, partly because the story is padded out with shit filler (like that awful, tacked-on love story) and partly because the CGI is dreadful compared with the models and costumes of the original LOTR. The Hobbit scenes with the Orc king bloke look like Dreamworks spoofing LOTR on Shrek or something. The old Orc costumes were infinitely better. It's jarringly bad when you watch them side by side.

I liked Kingdom of Heaven myself, starring Danny Pugh

Watched the Boxtrolls over the weekend. Mad film and highly enjoyable. Watched Ken Russels "The Devils" last night which I've managed to never see over the years. A tough watch but great film, Ollie Reed is some actor. Don;t think the good lady was too impressed with the majority of it. Inherent Vice is another great watch. Hard to to tell what's going on at time but works overall.

Only watched the Hobbit once in the cinema and probably will be the first and last time. Remember thinking just how bad that Orc looked. I can't believe the thing was greenlit. Along with that Troll king, look absolutely terrible. The Dragon looked decent for the most part though. Similar to Lucas with Star Wars, he seemingly forgot what made the narrative feel more real.
