Also, Southampton won the FA cup in the second season on my game, still in the championship.

Adam Johnson always does me nicely on the left of midfield, never been able to find a right midfielder I like though. Pennant is too patchy, Sotiris Ninis is just a soft greek bastard crying about his country being bankrupt or something, and everyone else I try just isn't anywhere near as good as Johnson lol. Chamberlain if you can get him.

Elliot Bennent becomes a decent right winger on my save. Picked him a few times for England when I had Blackwood (regen) injured and he set a few up and even scored on his debut

Bennett is awful for me (although he is in his 30's now), decent player statistically but just hasn't performed.

Joel Valenica from Zaragoza is class on the right. You need to get in there early though.

Started up a second game last night and went for the non-league challenge. I'm playing as Tamworth in the Blue Sq. prem and it's made me really remember why I love Footy Manager! Being in the Premier with Stoke is fun but starting at the bottom and putting a team together with no budget, crap facilities and rubbish staff is absolutely brilliant! Anybody else playing games where you've started in non-league football?

Not non-league, but I used to enjoy the football management games a lot more when we were in League One and such lol. We had a large stadium, so the facilities were in place to grow up the leagues.
Then we went and actually did it, which ruined football manager somewhat lol.
On FM08 I did play as Fram in Iceland, it was amusing getting them to become a side who regularly made it through the champions league group stage.

Also, I signed a 34 year old Ivica Olic last night for my side on a free transfer. What a beast of a player. Not even match fit yet and has scored 3 in 2 games.

My Tamworth season looks to be dependant on a player that I had totally forgotten even existed... Pablo Counago! What a machine in the conference, just hope I can keep him fit.

There is some quality players available in the lower leagues. Every so often I've been able to capture a golden oldie when playing at those levels, like Romario after his brazillian side released him a couple years back.
Non-league is easy if you can get a hold of a pacey striker usually though. So many slow and immobile defenders a bit of pace gets you comfortably to the championship.

Just started a new career, with Colwyn Bay ;D
Just had my first friendly, against Luton, played pretty well, but lost 2-0, but they are predicted to win the BSQ, so I did alright.
I got Lasota, who is 40 years old ;D But he is still way above this level, 1 year contract.
A couple more 'experienced' players, and a couple of young 'uns with potential.
My expectations are only to consolidate, which i should manage fine, but Colwyn have one of the lowest wage and transfer budgets to can't do much at the moment.

Freebies that I've signed so far with Tamworth that I'd recommend for non-league teams:
Pablo Counago - striker scores and assists loads Omar Koroma - striker/winger with great physical attributes Jamil Adam - striker, best signing I've made. Absolute goal machine at Blue Square level Frank Sinclair - amazingly still a bit of a best at right back and actually plays for Colwyn Bay in real life now. Just a short term fix though because his attributes soon drop off. Jack Lampe - young centre half who can play at right back. My scout creamed over his potential Nicholas Barrett - CM, ex-West Ham and my scout reckons he can be a good Championship midfielder Bryan Hughes - Ex Blues & Hull, quality creative CM at that level with good set pieces Lewis Emmanuel - LB, ex-Luton. Struggled with fitness for a couple of months but has turned into one of my most consistent performers Gareth Williams - CM and according to his wikipedia page he's actually retired at the age of 30 because of injury but he's available in the game and has done a superb job for me although he very rarely lasts the 90 minutes

I fucked up, splashed my wage budget and didn't get some proper defenders, and thought fuck that I can't be arsed to spend the season leaking goals, and relying on the blistering pace of my 40 year old midfielder and 37 year old striker ;D
Going to have a go at the Belgian leagues instead.

Haha fair enough. If you can be bothered to start again though the trio of Koroma, Counago and Adam can be easily acquired by a Blue Square Prem team and they're absolutely devastating as a trio. They all signed for me at Tamworth on part-term deals as well with a very moderate budget so they may even drop to the Blue Square North/South.

I'll see if they'll come to the Belgian Third Division, which I imagine is the same level as BSN/BSS. Not sure yet, trying to sort out the names and badges, they mustn't have the licenses for the Belgian leagues.

It was the one before that in 96/97 that got me addicted... www.amazon.co.uk/Championship-Manager-96-97-Box/dp/B00004XS4K/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1329230305&sr=1-1The problem with that game was that it had been programmed badly so that you could make any offer (both transfers and contracts) and then go back in after submitting them to change them and bring them right down and when you clicked cancel it still went through. So even as Stoke in the old division 2 you could offer Inter Milan £25m for Ronaldo and then offer him £50,000 a week but then actually get him for £1k on £100 a week by changing it afterwards! ;D He'd even stay happy as though he was on the original deal. This year's is the first one that I've played on for a few years and the missus has made a couple of comments along the lines of "You're on that game again?!" so I should be careful! Although I've got to admit that the most appealing Valentine's evening plan for me at the minute is to fire the game up again because last night I got a draw away at MK Dons in the 1st round of the FA Cup and my next game is the replay with an easy draw at home against Newport County in the 2nd round awaiting the winners. I don't think she'd be very understanding though so I'd better leave it.

Well I'm Hasselt, of the Belgian Derde Klasse B. A completely amateur team, don't need to piss about with contracts, I offer it, they accept ;D

There seems to be a massive lack of wingers in countries outside Britain, rarely come across foreign teams with out and out wingers.
