Basically just using this thread to provide some insight into what you can expect from Stoke players on FM12. There hasn't been any drastic changes to the squad this summer at least not in the stats that you will see directly on the players in-game.
There are a lot of stats which have an effect and some you can't see. Consistency, professionalism, determination, adaptability and pressure can be some of the biggest factors in a players performance.
These mental stats play a huge part in FM and I do generally feel we have one of the most determined sides in the league as well as being consistent. Consistent doesn't necessarily mean winning, it just means that the players are performing to a more constant standard.
Walters is the most improved player in the squad, his pace and finishing have gone up but the things that took up the rest of his CA budget were the increases to team work and work rate. Pace has an extremely high weighting and it took up almost half the CA points I increased him by. Walters is now more determined and consistent however, as well as better able to handle pressure situations.
Jones has lost a point from finishing but has been increased in other areas, his heading and jumping should mean he is more of an aerial threat now and like Walters he's also seen more improvements on the mental side of his game. Whilst Jones wasn't consistently banging them in last year he was consistent in some other aspects of his game, winning headers, being good defensively on set pieces etc. He is now more determined and consistent as well as more professional.
Begovic now has a fixed PA, it is scaled back a bit from a -9 range PA but largely now he is too old to reach his PA anyway. He's now rated as our best keeper though, having been bumped up a lot most of his direct goalkeeping attributes have increased.
Shawcross has actually gone down very slightly, he's lost a point off his first touch and passing and that is it, he has more determination now but other than that he is largely untouched.
Etherington a small increase just basically making him a bit better at doing his job of getting down the left. More consistency and determination added to him which again doesn't show up much on what you see but will make a difference in matches.
Pennant increased to the same level as Etherington but from a lower starting point, his crossing and dribbling seemed fine as they were so worked more on the other areas that were weaker, his decisions as he is more aware defensively now, his movement, strength and anticipation. More consistency added onto him for good measure.
This is just an insight on a few players, if you want anymore let me know.

I used to love Football Manager (and Championship Manager as it was originally, back in the dya).
As a kid growing up, I (literally) spent fucking hours on the game. Wheeling and dealing, tinkering tactics to perfection, saving clubs from relegation, getting clubs promoted, winning leagues, cups etc over a 20 year career.
I'd play on it in 12 hour stints at times and never know where the time went.
The most addictive and probably the all time greatest "bloke" game ever. Truly fantastic.
Unfortunately, it is called "Relationship Killer" for a reason. Most women don't like being "Champ Man Widows" and I rarely get to play it anymore.
I'd still love to start up a game tonight though, and spend 100 hours, in the space of a fortnight, taking a team from the Conference to the Champions League.
The "buzz" never ever leaves you, I'll be in rehab forever.
Championship/Football Manager - I miss you.

I get sent a free copy a week before release each year I'm researcher from now on, so I'm not likely to be giving it up any time soon. My missus understands though, I rarely drink and don't smoke so I'm allowed something

It's not decided yet, we had to get all our stats sent off at the beginning of May for it to begin entering the testing phases and to see how the data stacks up in the game. Obviously if across the thousands of simulations they're running every few days Stoke are winning the premiership with a 90% success rate I've probably been too generous with our players in some areas There is another phase of research before the game comes out and the start date for this hasn't been announced yet, so its more than likely looking at being around the November time again this year.

I think FM has let me down a bit this year, it was disappointing, heading in the right direction. Don't see why the transfer negotiations with a club aren't the same as wages with an agent.

Only thing I didn't like about 11 was the level of interaction with players about their performances etc. I'm not after a full on role play but being a bit more expansive would be nice.
Also doing contracts for 'the kiddies' should be made easier to do, unless there was a streamlined way of doing it already?

Your assistant should automatically be responsible for youth contracts unless you've changed it.

It should definitely be like that. I don't know why it isn't/ It doesn't make sense why it isn't really. I also think the game is too difficult tactically and often makes no sense, it takes guesswork and experimentation to make a good tactic which I often think is ridiculous. My tactic I have developed and now use it permanently, (used it in 2010) is ridiculously narrow and attacking, it's bullshit.

What annoys me, is if you sign 5/6 really young lads for the academy, they count as normal signings so mess up team morale.

What annoys me is wage demands from 20-21 year olds and them requesting minimum release fees of about 8 mill despite me buying them for more and them being one of the best in the world.

And Pennant and Etherington being crap as right/left midfielders, which is where they play!
Wilko not being a natural right back!
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...
Has Huth gone up Santy? And has Stoke's club reputation gone up at all?

Huth has gone up a bit, Pennant and Etherington should be more natural in the RM/LM position. Same with Wilko, I've had to be careful how I do it because of how it adjusts weightings. With their current stat set as an AMR Pennant could be a 137 player, put him to RM and suddenly he may be coming up as a 143/144 player.
The best example is Wilson, I made him more able to play at LB and his CA went up 3/4 points. There isn't a lot of difference between 18 and 20 in a position though,

Oh yea, forgot to mention one-two the clubs reputation is almost certain to go with us now being in the Europa League and having an FA cup final to our name for last season. I'm not in control of Stokes reputation however, it is set by the head researcher for England who sets all club reputations to try and keep it more relative to one another.
There is also implementation of a new feature that is a sort of guideline to in the best possible forseeable circumstances how big or small a club could become. Whilst it is possible we could win 5 premiership titles in a row its not likely, so this shapes how a clubs reputation will evolve from now on. This will actually make it more of a challenge to get a club soaring through the leagues and signing better players at each level.
The generation of youth players is also changing, the clubs training facilities will have a bearing on players potential ability. There is numerous changes in the game towards this end, some was meant to be in last year (like the new stuff for player potential) and other stuff is in our version of the editor that you don't get to see. There is some stuff there which isn't functional to do with training that may well end up in say FM13.

Santy - one of the big problems I had with Pennant in FM11 was his work rate. I suppose that's a lingering impression from his reputation with other clubs, but it was exceptionally low and I think that in real life he's shown himself to be an exceptionally hard worker. Has that been tweaked?
What difference does determination make? I'm just wondering, I don't pay a lot of attention to it when I play (I'm pretty bog standard with what I look for in players; tackling, heading, height and marking for all defenders, crossing, acceleration, pace and dribbling for wingers, work rate, passing, tackling and height for central midfielders, dribbling, pace, composure and finishing for strikers are all the basics that I start with when I look at a player).
I think that the press releases about opposition managers were strangely limited as well. You can't say 'After that game, I think you're a tool' any more or anything relating to the previous game.
Thanks for the insight, though. Must be a dream job being the Stoke FM researcher.

Is there going to be a change in the stars system in training. The DDM system now is stupid.
