How come Sunderland get proper stripes yet we don't? This happens every year. How do you mean? I set the kit templates but there's very few to choose from - perhaps the Sunderland researcher is picking a different one to me but there is only 2 or 3 striped kits to pick from. To make matters worse, they look nothing like the template once in game. The Sunderland kit always has more stripes whereas our shirt always looks like the 08/09 shirt with thicker stripes. It happens every single year, both clubs have had the same template from Adidas the past two seasons as well.

For January I'll ask the Sunderland research which template he uses, there is only 4 and they all look largely the same on the templates (main difference being the sleeves/collars).

I just find it strange that you're obviously picking a striped template but it's never properly reflected in the game

Well the template for kits must be one of the oldest things in the game. Basically this is what I see in the list to pick from: Nothing at all like what you'd then see on the club information screen, and again different to what you see on the actual match engine.

'Commentary only' till I die though ;D Amen to that brother! Commentary only, full speed, no highlights. It's the way it should be played.

'Commentary only' till I die though ;D Amen to that brother! Commentary only, full speed, no highlights. It's the way it should be played. I always used that but the last few months of FM13 I went with full screen, key (full speed) and replays for goals. Originally it was just to see how a new custom tactic was working and I ended up sticking with it.

How's everyone doing?
Played it sporadically, managed a brilliant 1-0 win at home to Man United, proper backs to the wall stuff but then went and lost to Oldham in the League Cup after Walters wasted at least 47 chances.
Started playing with a 4-2-3-1 but it wasn't creating enough for me and defensively it was suspect if I didn't set both CM's to Ball Winning Midfielders with a Defend mentality. Just started using a deep 4-4-2 and that's creating more without being suspect at the back. We'll see how that goes.
Walters is dogshit on it though and I can't seem to get Arnie playing . However, Assaidi is awesome and Pennant has been my best option on the right wing. Brought in William Gallas as backup to Shawcross and Huth.

I've lost at home to spurs, drew away at West Brom and beat Hull (home) and Norwich (away) in my first four games, and the reserves beat Crawley on pens in the cup after Sorenson saved three pens in a row ;D
Managed to flog Whelan, Walters, Palacios and Edu and brought on Will Hughes and Sam Byram. Keep tinkering with tactics every game, I've got a long term idea of what I want to use but just don't have the right players at the minute. Really liking it so far, seems to run quicker than 13 too.

Is everyone else getting killed with injuries? I've been missing 3-5+ players every game, four games in and Ness and Wilson are my only avaliable CM's

I love this game. Finished 6th in my first season with Stoke, Newcastle overtook me on the last day of the season when they beat me 1-0 so I luckily avoided Europa League because of cup winners. Begovic threw a massive strop about wanting to go to a bigger club and ended up going Southampton for £9.5mil Shawcross asked to leave not nobody would pay £20mil and he ended up signing a new contract.

The man to sign is Philipp Hosiner - had a complaint on the Stoke research/data thread that he scored 25 goals for Stoke. I don't exactly know what he's expecting me to do about it since he isn't a Stoke player. It'd be a bit like complaining Stoke had signed Messi and then he scores 50 goals.

Crouch scored 11 in his first 12 games which I thought was strange but he managed to finish the season with a much more realistic 15 goals in 32 games...

Honestly I did about 25 play throughs last January and the testing team are constantly on it again this summer and Crouch can still just score for fun if the AI uses him a certain way. It just can't be stopped because of his height and the effectiveness it brings in the match engine.

First time I haven't picked it up this year. My days of pre-ordering anything are over after the Rome 2 debacle.
Any demo coming out?

Doubt it, it's out in like a week. Seem to get offered some real bargains by agents this year. Got Josue for £800k last Jan and under a year later he's a regular in the Portugal team and worth £6.5mil.

I haven't been able to play since the pre-release came out, had a bug that's affecting it on my PC and they haven't found a solution yet. Takes the piss that after all this time of having it, now when I want it to start a proper game - I can't play it.

Transfer fees seem much more realistic this year, players being bought and sold for their values rather than stupidly inflated prices. Some real bargains about.
Dybala from Palermo is an absolute twat though. Signed him, two years later he puts in a transfer request, I agree to sell him and he demands money to move ;D

Finally finished my first season as Stoke manager and finished 2nd in the league, only 7 points behind Chelsea. Had N'Zonzi injured from about Christmas onwards with a broken ankle which really set me back, as well as regular injuries for Pieters, Muniesa, Adam, Jones and Arnie. Couple of daft results like losing to Cardiff away didn't help either so with a bit of luck, I should've won the title really. Got to the Semi's of the League Cup where I just fell short, again, to Chelsea. Lost the 1st Leg 2-0 away then won the 2nd Leg 3-2, had one cleared off the line from a scrambled corner in the last few minutes. Dumped out in the 4th Round of the FA Cup to Everton, that was disappointing.
Only signed Kim Kallstrom to actually play regularly. Also signed Eric Dier and Harry Maguire as future players and backup.
Couple of things..
1) Some of our players play at far higher level than they're capable of, Wilkinson especially. I love Wilko but an average rating of 7.81? That's just insanity. He also scored a belter from 20 yards out just to add to the unrealisticness ;D
2) Injuries, they occur far too much, it'd be a miracle to get through a single week without someone in the 1st Team/Under 21's/Under 18's picking up an injury.
3) Since the Beta patch that got applied today/yesterday/whatever, the opposition teams seem to be getting red cards for reckless challenges far too much. I don't think I've ever seen a player be sent off for two yellows either.
4) As soon as I hit December, so around a combined 20 games in all competitions, my physio pops up to say that Wilko, Huth and Arnie are all in need of a rest. Arnie had played around 10 games due to being injured, Wilko had played around 80% of the games and Huth had played in all but two. Surely that's far too soon for that to be occurring? I'd expect that later on in the season considering their Natural Fitness stats are 14/15/12 respectively. If they were low then fair enough.
5) Striker confidence seems a little bit off for me. If a forward isn't scoring he seems to get into a rut and doesn't score for ages, even if he's performing well (7 and above) and popping up with the occasional assist. It seems to not really take into account what the players role is. If you've got say, a False Nine, and he's there to create first, score second, then surely his confidence will be based on assists, passes completed, crosses completed, dribbles completed, that sort of thing, the creation based stats, not goals. Obviously, if a Poacher isn't scoring then his confidence will get stuck in a rut until he scores as that's natural for a player in that role. It's 5:31am so I've probably explained that poorly.
Apart from them little niggles, I'm loving it this year.

Stoke's squad is still actually rated as one of the poorer in the leagues though. It really shouldn't be happening. Jones and Crouch keep turning up and scoring for fun - no matter how many drops and changes they're given whilst still trying to keep their ratings how myself and others involved in the research feel they should be. Defenders seem to be over-performing across the board. Since Stoke have a decent defence, then with the bizarre goal scoring of Jones & Crouch it makes it a lot easier to get up the league.
