Discuss, particularly in reference to dropping either Huth or Shawcross, or moving Huth, to accommodate him.

Going to be interesting to see where he fits in.

It pisses me off seeing 'Stoke City Crock' in the papers, alright he's had his problems but since he's signed for us he's been as fit as anyone else.
I wouldn't want to see Huth moved to right back, but if we can keep Woodgate fit he's simply too good to leave out of the team.

Its going to be the lineup at the back providing he keeps fit, Id put money on it. Pulis wont be afraid of moving Huth to accomodate John in the middle. Hes obviously made a good impression during his training. Whatever happens weve got a brick fucker of a wall.
Wilko is going to lose out I think.

If we get through to the Group Stages then use Woodgate in Europe and Huth/Shawcross in Premier League. I wouldn't like to see Huth on the right regularly although he was our MOTM tonight in my opinions.

Huth is the perfect defender, you're not getting past him, and if you do get past him he's going to fucking kill you.

If Woodys fit he has to play. He will bring Ryan on no end, Huth can play right back and Wilko would be adequate back up. Wilson hasnt been shown up at left back either so a back four of Huth Woody Ryan and Wilson looks pretty good to me. If Woody breaks down then Huth moves over to the middle and Wilko drops in at right back ;D

Apart from being class tonight, Huth's shit at RB though. Wilko's a much better RB than Huth. Makes this Scott Dann speculation even weirder too, if we're still in for him, how the fuck are we expecting to be able to keep four first choice CBs happy?
Unless TP just wants to revert to four CBs across the back!

I think Huth is our best defender, it's a shame that the only option to accommodate Woodgate is to shift Huth to somewhere he isn't quite as dominant. I've got this funny feeling we're going to see the odd 5-4-1 away from home this season.

With the right midfielders 541 could be our best formation, one of our forwards is basically an attacking mid anyway

I can't understand the 541 formation. Isn't it supposed to be to accommodate wingbacks and a diamond central formation? If we used our wingers as wingbacks we'd be essentially be playing three in defence. Isn't it supposed to look like this? Goalkeeper Centreback Centreback Centreback Wingback ----------------------------- Wingback Holding midfielder Centremid ---------------- Centremid Attackingmid Striker

That could work for us though Boother. Wilson can play a more attacking role and Wilko, whilst not great going forwards would do a job. Our back 3 would be immense and we could play 2 holding midfielders, the 2 wingers can then push up to support the striker. So when on the attack we'd be playing 3-4-3 and when defending it would go into 5-4-1.

Jonathan Woodgate if he can sustain fihtness i pure class better I think than Huth and Shawcross but really he is so easily injured

Begovic XXXX Huth Woodgate Shawcross Wilson Pennant Parker Gibson Etherington Jones
Don't know who we'd get in at RB but that team would be amazing.
Whatever happened to all the Gibson rumours? I've still got a semi from thinking about it.

If he's fit we've got to play him-it's as simple as that.

I would be tempted to play woodgate a lot more away from home, as we struggled last season, he will add that stability because our defense look completely different away from home...

If he's fit we've got to play him-it's as simple as that. Huth and Shawcross are a brilliant partnership though, one of the best centre back partnerships in the league. As good as Woody is I don't think it is fair to break up that partnership. Moving Huth to right back isn't the answer either, he played well last night but he's proved time and time again he is a bit naff there. He was also our best player last season, whilst playing at centre back. Why move him? Keep the back for of last season unless we sign better full backs obviously and use Woody in Europe and in the Cup games. He's excellent cover for Huth and Shawcross and he is limited to the amount of games he can play because he can easily get injured. Does anyone know how much he gets per game?
