Great to hear you say that, Shiny. I heard Chris Evans going on about it on R2 as well and it persuaded me to try to get my 13 yo lad (not an active lad unlike yours truly) into it. Maybe this coming weekend. Must lay off the booze Friday night. Had a run this evening 4k in 21 mins 10 secs, no idea if that is good or not for a 46 yo in bootcut jeans? The good thing is, doesn't matter if it's good or not, people are genuinely just glad to be a part of trying to be fit/healthy and encouraging each other. For the record, I usually run between 27 and 28 minutes which is a round the 50% mark for my age group (35-39) you get a percentage grading against all other parkrunners, not just your event. Looking forward to jumping a couple of percent come May when I switch to 40-44. Looks like your time will be 50-55% at a guess. Your lad will take some convincing, especially this time of year, improving times and your name on the website tend to help, especially when PB's appear next to your name. Juniors (under 14) get their first milestone t-shirt at ten runs so if he has time to squeeze them in, otherwise he has to wait til 50 like the rest of us Parkruns are great - got the idea off Jammers or Northy. I like the Saturday morning start - back home by 10. Its a great way to start the weekend. The website is brilliant too recording all the times etc. I'm similar to Shiny time wise these days but was hovering around the 25 minute mark just around the time I died around 15 months ago. Your time sounds pretty decent Turts (for an old cunt) - I can feel a Parkrun thread/table coming on here - nothing like a bit of healthy competition to motivate each other eh? :-)

If you want to improve your Parkrun times you need to change your start methods.
Jump out of some bushes flashing the old chap around in front of someone likely to scream or start shouting for help or police. Then run like buggery. Great adrenaline rush too.

Surprised this didn't get resurrected earlier this month, what with New Years rezzers and all that. Anyhoo, just wondered if any of you fitness types attend your local parkrun? I've been doing them for a while now but heard Chris Evans getting all excited about it on the radio this morning, I thought they were common knowledge but it would appear not. www.parkrun.org.uk/ I do the one at delamere Park now and then. I'm in london this year, had a little set back with a slight calf strain but up to 18 miles in training now Chester or Nottingham would be a good marathon for your first, quite flat, they are later on in the year.

I was going to suggest you extend your range to the amusingly names Fawcett Inn, one of my old locals, but I fear it is outside of your range.

Went in there many a time back in the days, my brother lived in a few different flats around that area, and an old mate from Butt Lane (best men at each others weddings) lived in Viccy road North. London 2 weeks on Sunday, all the long training runs done, everything aches and twinges, on the taper, just a half marathon this weekend and a 10k next Sunday

Finished the London Marathon in 3.57, wasn't too bad on the day, I was targetting 3.40 ish but came down with a stinker of a cough and cold a few days before, which is now a chest infection and on antibiotics, so pleased with getting round on the day, but annoying to be pestered by some little germs.
I raised nearly £1500 for Dougie Macmillan though so it was worth it.

Impressive dude, under 4 hours is a decent time.
Was trying to work out how long it would take me and I'd like to think I could do 10 minute miles for that distance which would come out around the 4hr20min mark, complete guesswork as I haven't ran anything over about 12 miles before.
Back in for the ballot next week!!
On a side note, decided I wasn't going to park run last Saturday so had a couple of cans and a bottle of red Friday night. Woke up Saturday and fancied going but worried about driving over the limit so cycled there. So, with semi-hangover and extra exercise on the way there, surely a poor time, no, took 52 seconds off my PB, very strange!

It's the red wine, they tested it on mice and they ran faster than those without red wine. Try the Medoc marathon, only 23 wine stations along the route

Broke my 2 year old 5k PB on Saturday morning, ran the Warrington park 5k run in 22.10 (2nd in age group), still would have been about 8 minutes and 8 laps behind Mo Farrah
