The money i've saved in the long run on PC could buy me one of each console probably ;D
I'm not an elitist though, consoles certainly have their place and are worthy of it but if you are someone like myself who spends serious hours a week gaming PC is the way to go.
You can build a PC way more powerful than either console for the same money these days as well and the cheapness of the games at the minute is unreal.
For instance I got BF4 and china rising on a cd key website for less than £30 quid, it took 5 minutes for them to email me the key. Not to mention all the 'new' media/social functionality on consoles has been available since day 1 on PC, in fact the PC outdates the concept as a whole.

Factors against owning a PC personally:
- I find consoles far too convenient now I'm a homeo(wner). Place it in the alcove, hook it up to the 50", turn the surround sound up, recline, go.
- I don't have the room for a rig anywhere in the living room (wouldn't play hunched over a screen in the box room).
- Couldn't afford / justify a rig with having a console.
- If there's anything I've learned over the last 15 years, it's that Sony do exclusives that (mostly) resonate with me that aren't available elsewhere.
- I had a decent rig when HL2 was out and was quite a frequent PC gamer for about 10 years prior to that and it was quite a solitary experience being cooped up in my little room. I think my gaming personality has changed in that I don't mind playing whilst the Mrs is watching or if mates come round, we can stick a multiplayer on (never happens).

The problems lie in convincing some friends to do the same, and ultimately some games I do like tend to be console only - or get shafted on the PC version. FIFA, fight night, Forza etc only come out on the consoles - which is retarded really. A lot of the games haven't tested the PC market in over 10 years and as a result decide because it didn't work back then it wouldn't now. I'm glad I haven't bought one now anyway, the last couple of weeks I've tried playing Batman and AC IV in 1920 x 1200 and I've had to actually knock some settings down, so I'm looking at getting a new card once I see one on offer. My current 6870 has done much better than I expected though, bought it 3 years ago when it first came out. Currently considering an R9 280X or a GTX 770. I had a cheeky look at a Titan and it could be an option but I think in 3/4 years time it would still be finished, I'm after something that will age well with its price. If a part works out costing me less than £100 a year generally its done quite well.

I agree about the friends thing, as Lew said PC gaming can be lonely as it seems to be so much more inaccessible due to the perceived expensiveness. I'm rocking a 580 still from when I got my custom build, think i'll manage another year before an upgrade maybe even two if i'm lucky as I can still max most games. I only tend to have performance problems on poorly optimised games, anything that runs well for the most part is fine on my system. Obviously this new generation will push the quality of multi platform releases through the roof which will mean a lot of people on older systems/cards will need to upgrade soon. Also I personally think the Titan is more of a gimmick card, the massive vram is obviously nice but the performance difference is negligible with the other top cards out there now. Amd have really upped their game for the last 2 generations of cards too so it's a tough decision upgrading at the current time.

I have all but given up on the PC. If you have money to burn (especially on graphics cards) the PC is head and shoulders above consoles (as long as it has the games you want and you can spunk money away like a woman who likes shoes and handbags).
My problem with PC's is that they are like a drug supplier who hooks his takers on the latest drug and then offers something else which comes along all too often and it's what you need just to keep going (cards, latest ram, motherboards) ........... That's just the start ...... drivers ..... updates ....... conflicts with my scrotum ....
And then there's fucking windows ............. Just fuck off please. Windows XP was brilliant. Since then you have chosen the arse instead of the fanny so fuck off and I'll keep things simple, choose a console, get used to a FUCKING CONTROL PAD, and wait for the games I want to appear ..... SONY ... Please ... Everquest Next.

Don't think I'll get the PS4 for a number of years, I'm not a big enough gamer to justify spending shitloads of money (that I don't actually have) on the console and the games. Its not worth buying just for FIFA, and considering the only games I play are FIFA and GTA I wouldn't be surprised if I don't buy the PS4 until I either come into a load of money or GTA VI is released.

This. I play one game a fair bit and that's Madden NFL 25 and then pop onto GTA and Skyrim occasionally and then the PS3's used mainly for Netflix and that's about it. I can't justify paying a few hundred quid on something that'll be doing pretty much the same thing. I said it'd be February at the earliest but I'd be prepared to go until next Christmas in all honesty.

The reasons I'm getting one is because between my Mrs and myself, we can afford one and because I'm a sucker for shinyshiny new things. Would end up getting one at some point so may as well be at a time when I can afford one. Plus it's the cheapest launch console I've purchased in a long time. Will probably still spend my gaming time split between using the PS3 and 4 as I've got more games to clear on the PS3.
Won't be using it until Christmas anyway so that's another month without. Will be downloading the patches and make sure it isn't a dodgy unit then away into hiding it goes.

The idea of speaking to your games console is terrible.

It's just a novelty where the excitement dies out within a couple of weeks.
All the Move/Kinect stuff is just too gimmicky for me.

Wasn't going to get FIFA for the PS4 as it wasn't specifically designed for it, was going to keep playing it on the 360 and wait for FIFA15 for the PS4
Now there's a bunch of cunts tweeting how fucking pretty it is on the PS4, I just know I'm gonna be suckered in to spending £50 on a game i realistically already have
Wooohoooo parcel force van just pulled up outside !!!
