I was actually really thinking of getting a console until I started trying the games that were on both consoles/PC. Even with a 3 year old graphics card my PC still outperforms the consoles. I remember that bullshit spouted before about how the consoles would eclipse gaming current gaming PC's yet my relic of 3/4 year old components is still doing better.
Playing ACIV with 70+ FPS not that FPS really matters in any particular way because you don't notice the rapid tessellation of background objects so well but it seems to be the latest fanboys dick measuring tool lol.

I have always been mainly a PC player due to my liking for MMORPG's but as for your dick measuring comment that has always been the PC users who, on console forums, never cease to mention that the PC is so superior/has a KB/Mouse/ and a huge cock with testicles the size of a small planet. Sonys decision to release EQ Next on PS4 shows just how powerful the nextgen consoles are. In a way I'm hoping it leads to the demise of the PC as a gaming platform, but regardless of that, the cloud based STEAM console will probably do that anyway. |

I ended up getting Tomb Raider for 30 quid. Ordered it in a fit of rage when Sunderland scored, Shopto had packed and delivered it 3 minutes later. Fucking witchcraft.

The loss of the PC as a gaming platform would be tragic for games. The consoles hold games back, not the other way around. Were it not for memory limitations or as with the previous batch of consoles the DirectX limitations games could have been pushed further, faster. The consoles are trying to emulate PC's more and more look at the evolution from a NES/SNES through to the PS1 and then now the PS4/Xbox one. The only reason the PS4 and Xbox one are out now is because the gulf was just too great, when the PS3/Xbox 360 came out we were told we should expect to wait more than 10 years before there was talk of a new generation of consoles and that 6/7 year gaps were a thing of the past. Alienware being touted about as one of the major names involved with the Steam system already pour a lot of doubt on it as an actual legitimate challenger at this stage. Alienware are quite possibly the only company on the planet who can make Apple products look like value for money. If the Steam thing is done sensibly however, then it has the potential to be great but there are some worrying signs as a gamer its going to be horribly overpriced by some of the partners who may well have a monopoly on certain specs or price-ranges. |

As I initially said I was always a PC gamer and at this time the PC is still the most impressive of the gaming platforms but for me, with the advent of my particular genre of gaming (MMORPG's) beginning to appear on the nextgen consoles, and with my favourite ever MMORPG franchise due for release in 2015 it will probably allow me to move over to PS4. I will still use my Mac and PC for strategic historical wargaming but as for leading edge stuff I am more than fed up with the constant upgrading of graphic cards etc.
