I've just brought a hybrid to commute into work. I'm starting at a half way point and working up to 40 miles a day hopefully. Just went to Specialized bike shop in Stafford with a budget and spoke to the guys who were dead helpful. I actually ordered a road bike today and all the gubbins, spent a rather large amount of money on it too. Do you know if the shop in stafford do proper bike fittings? Can't find anything store specific on the web. They definitely do the fitting at the Stafford store. I think they've got a pod or summat. I don't know if you have to pay or anything... linkI didn't bother though, they just checked when I sat on it that the saddle was the correct height. I've got to take it back after six weeks for them to readjust if necessary.

Fook me sideways, a little jog from Kidsgrove to...... Stockport, just a mere 35miles. I'll leave that one to the youngsters. beyondmarathon.com/gritstone-grind/My friend has signed up for it, he's doing the hadrians wall ultra this weekend, nutter There must be something wrong with me, I really like the look of that! Not ready for it this year but would definitely consider running it next year...

6 miles in that heat tonight felt like 10, on the plus side the women are nearly naked and all hot and sweaty In the interest of balance there are some nice fit fellas at our club running without shirts. The only downside is they run to fast for me to catch em. ;D Do shorter laps so they go past you a few times

What apps do you punks use to track all this?
I've just started using Endomondo seems pretty decent so far but open to change.

welcome back sidders, to the running and the board, hope the legs are getting there. Still teetotal? 16 mile on the sandstone trail yesterday, tough but enjoyable being on trail and off road, although a few nettle and thistle stings, feet soaking wet and a bit of retching to get a moth out that hit the back of my throat Total climb nearly 3000 feet with Eddisbury hill, at nearly 14 miles was a 300 foot climb in half a mile :/

I'm doing London-Paris next year www.londonparisbikeride.co.uk/itinerary.aspxBeen amassing many hours on the bike and really enjoying it. Got my avg speed up around the 17mph mark doing 10-20 miles a night, which in 3 weeks is not too shabby I reckon.

Mate told me he was gonna go and make me do 5000 km on the rower, then he went and got 20 chicken McNuggets and chips instead.

3 miles last night in 30 mins, I ran with a fairly newbie at the club, he's training up for a 10k, I was almost walking a bit at times, but he wanted somebody to up the pace for him, good on him for getting started and having targets.

Oh I’ve missed this thread so here’s a load of replies in one post: In the interest of balance there are some nice fit fellas at our club running without shirts. The only downside is they run to fast for me to catch em. ;D Do shorter laps so they go past you a few times I’m too tempted to trip em and apparently that’s frowned upon… What apps do you punks use to track all this? I've just started using Endomondo seems pretty decent so far but open to change. I have a Garmin forerunner 305. Some people use mapmyrun.com or runkeeper.com i think. Did 19 miles yesterday, a bit cooler thankfully I use runkeeper because it tracks running and cycling and you can add gym work. However I’m jonesing for a Garmin 910XT because TRIATHLON. I’m beginning to think I’ve lost my mind… Go SIDDERS and Go SHELDON ! Joined a gym. Haven't been yet. Abs, motherfucker. I have a gym membership but the more I get into fitness the more I think it’s pointless. I run, I bike, I do BodyBalance (a sort-of TaiChi, Yoga, Pilates combo), I do Plyometrics, I very, very occasionally swim. None of which require joining a rip-off gym. Even doing a couple of sessions Guerrilla or Cave are better than joining a gym. Do some planks = abs, motherfucker. 3 miles last night in 30 mins, I ran with a fairly newbie at the club, he's training up for a 10k, I was almost walking a bit at times, but he wanted somebody to up the pace for him, good on him for getting started and having targets. The more I get into this fitness malarkey the more I am thankful for the athletes who put up with me being rubbish (I am enthusiastic but slow as shit) and the more I want to encourage other people to exercise. I’m just very annoying ;D I also ♥ my bike so much I am considering dumping the motor...

WTF is plyometrics, sounds like something from B&Q Good on yer for a Tri, friend of mine a lady in her 50's did that ironman tri in Bolton last weekend, 2.4 mil swim, 112 mile bike ride then run a marathon, time of 14 hours, she did the marathon in 4hr 18 mins !

Plyometrics is mainly body weight exercises like planks and push-ups where form and reps are used. Essentially it's circuits (boooooring). I am only giving Tri a tentative looksie because I'm doing 2 out of 3 of the disciplines and it'll probably be 12 months before I compete in anything. I want to practice open water swimming somewhere first and I need a wet suit for that.
On another note I'm doing the Congleton Half in October.

Out of interest do any of you ride road bikes? Looking at getting into it as running isn't an option with my knee/ankle/foot problems. (BMX years have officially caught me up) Need some advice really on where to start. Yeah, I'm a road rider. Been at it for years and really love it. Should be out for a steady 50 miler tomorrow, just getting a few base miles in ready for Octobers 'Cat and Fiddle Challenge. Be happy to help/ advise as much as I can ;0)

It's the Nottingham Half 7 weeks today so I thought I'd better dust off the trainers (haven't ran in ages) - did 8 miles and nearly died. Best step it up considerably over the next few weeks or I may as well order one of these.....
