The good thing about hills is what goes up must come down. And 35 miles on a bike is a piece of piss. The pain you are feeling is because you've had a break it'll improve once your body gets used to it again. How little is your little un? You could get a tandem On another note I'm running my first 20 mile race in two weeks. Bricking it. Little 'un is ok, think I squashed a testicle but the Little 'un remained intact! 35 miles on a flat bit of land is do-able for most but this is called "the peaks" so it's well outside my ability.... I'll do it though and raise some pennies for Genesis Breast cancer awareness. Did another 20m tonight, Congleton and back which wasn't so bad. Gonna get me some of those miracle energy gels, and some proper sports clothes as I'm riding in Bermuda shorts and an old cotton t shirt! Ps running can fuck off, it hurts my knees! But good luck! 36 miles done on the bike today. I still ride in t-shirts, tend to be tech shirts I've got from races, but padded shorts are a must. I love my padded shorts. Good luck with the race yourself

I've been concentrating on 10k runs for the Stoke 10k then going to move onto half marathons ready for Angelsey in February next year. Don't reckon it will be a massive jump as I was doing 15k anyway. Only problem I've been having lately is an ache on the outside of my calves. I think it's pretty standard since I'm still a newbie and building up my strength. Yeah, the South Cheshire 20 www.southcheshireharriers.org.uk/clubraces/20m/20m_main.php it's my birthday so what better way to live in denial about aging than running myself into the ground. I have loads of niggles, mainly because I'm relatively new as well so I have monthly physio appointment which hurts more than the bloody running. Still I've gone from couldn't run for a mile to running 20 miles in just under 2 years so I'm quite pleased with that. I'm old so endurance running is my aim rather than speed.

Lazy bastards who sit around on gym equipment yakking need charging double. Our asked one to move so I could cracking on with what I was up to and you'd have thought I'd have traipsed through his shag pile with dog shit on my shoes.
Fuck off, buy some lycra and a Raleigh racer and let the rest of us cracking on.

Energy gells and cycling shorts landed (they are tight too, pair of socks down the front required for public outings me thinks ;D)
Can't wait try an energy tell, it's like drugs for sad 36 year olds!
Bike again tomorrow, might try a hill!

Another ride to Congleton n back, 10 mins quicker then 'tother day and I did a hill! Forgot my bastard energy gel though Had my sponsorship stuff for the charity bike ride I've somehow ended up entering. It's for genesis breast cancer awareness, not my choice as I have neither breast nor cancer (touch wood) but that is the chosen charity. If i do a "just giving" account do any of you fancy just giving?... I'll stick an 1863 banner on my sticker thing!

Another ride to Congleton last night, felt quite a bit easier than previously.... Could have been the energy gel?
Going to try stone n back on satdee, bout 30 miles but flat; I really need to try some hills or "the peaks" is going to be the fucking death of me.
I was thinking whilst riding that I've spent 20 odd years without exercise, drinking, smoking and doing fuck knows what when I could gave been a prime specimen. It would have been less fun but I reckon I've already shaved at least a decade off my life.

Well done Jonesy top effort that mate - and you Cat - 20 miles? That's brilliant (considering your age and all.....)
I've been doing the odd Parkrun here and there but decided at the weekend to start running again in the week (since the heart stuff last year) Did 4 miles tonight so looking to go out 3/4 times a week again. Quite enjoyed it (for a change) so will see what happens but the 1/2 marathon days are over - maybe 8 miles tops in a few weeks?

Wish I had the time to go out 3/4 times a week, light fading soon so riding will be a bit of a non starter. Need another activity, can't run (knees don't like it), wouldn't mind regular rampant sex but the missus isn't fussed. I quite like darts, might try long distance darts.

Long distance darts? what like the Javelin? Not really, less Lycra, probably just set my oche at 20 paces instead of 7'9"... Work the upper body and get a bit of cardio-vascular action.

Yes, taking it steady....... 4 miles yesterday too. Strangely motivated at the moment and quite enjoying it - What about swimming Jonesy? Good for the joints but still raises the heart rate etc.
